Habs=stanleycup
Welcome to the team but please always be mindful of who's skates, skills and who's heart you're replacing. Godspeed and good luck.

habsisme
What is Weber's reaction to the trade... has he said anything yet? I just asked the same question! Weber is a great D man, all those experts can't be wrong even if his analytics are off... but I honestly still think that PK is not only better but a better fit for this team... we needed his unorthodox play and a little risk taking because it was the only way we'd get it done

habs_93
Well what is the comparison?Entirely irrelevant as:Turnovers are unequally recorded Turnovers indicate mainly how often a player touches the puck, not to what effect (therefor a higher number favouring better defencemen like Subban as opposed to Weber), and Likely not ES 5-on-5 or adjusted, making them even less useful than they theoretically could be. I feel like I've said this a lot, but I'll give it another go: turnovers as a stat in the NHL are meaningless. Absolutely meaningless.
Noob616
Feel bad for him. He'll be fine in the first couple years, definitely a big downgrade on Subban but he'll still make lots of big hits, and score ~15 goals, and have respectable point totals so he'll be reasonably well received I think. After that will be rough, 34-35 year old Shea Weber will be in steep decline while Subban continues to light the league up. Think he gets Gomez'd by 2018-19 or 19-20. PuckPundit
Despite all the Weber bashing, I shall reserve judgement until at least 30 games into the new season. There's this prevailing stereotype that Shea Weber is the best defenceman, just like Sidney Crosby is the best forward. I never understood it or how that came about. But there must be something to fuel their reputations. I do remember he clocked the hardest shot at All-Star game some years ago. Hopefully it is adequate replacement for the Subban one-timer. Noob616
He once was an elite defenseman. He just isn't anymore. He's still a good player but he doesn't drive possession anymore without someone like Josi (who we don't have) on his pairing. He's very good on the power play and in the offensive zone he's still strong. He will not excel in Montreal where he's expected to be the guy. One of Suter or Josi has been driving the bus in Nashville for a long time, and it's not reasonable to expect Beaulieu or a 38 year old Markov to replace Josi or Suter. He'll still score ~15 goals and in front of Price his GA/60 will look respectable, but his pairing will get cratered in shots and GF/60 unless Markov discovers the fountain of youth or Beaulieu takes a big jump. That or cross our fingers that Sergachev is able to step in soon and take on a big role. That's ultimately the damning thing about this. Weber is a good player, but he's a player who needs a specific kind of partner which we don't have, and needs to be put in a position we can't provide to succeed. Subban made Hal Gill and Josh Gorges look like top pairing defencemen. He is a truly special player, and Habs fams are about to doscover just how special he was when they see how a supposedly "elite" defender like Weber does next to Markov. Agreed, this is going to go downhill rather quickly. He'll certainly give us a few good/great years, but will need massive sheltering at some point. On the other hand, since MB has now acquired the savior and tied his entire GM legacy to the outcome of this trade, we're in it to win it, right? And MT will take us there, finally after all those years No pressure though, Shea. I'm sure Montreal isn't going to be much different than Nashville

I1IscottieI1I
Im excited for Weber. I have to wonder if Sergachev plays the pre season as his partner if he truely is nhl ready this trade could turn out in our favour. Weber is the best dman in the league you could pair with a rookie dman. Weber will protect Sergachev and allow him to play top line minutes and not worry about being the last man back. He is an elite defensman. I think its sort of crazy to be arguing otherwise. The problem isnt Shea Weber. I would have welcomed him with open arms if we could have acquired him for anyone not named Subban, Price, Pacioretty or Galchenyuk. The problem is that we gave up a better player, on a better contract who is younger etc etc. Anyway, as far as Weber goes, I think he'll be fine here (at least for a few years. Maybe he can find out what Chelios was drinking & get some). I am not too worried about the analytic variances - he's still an elite defensman & I think he will probably fit Therriens system better (the fact that we have to live with that is the bigger problem). If Sergachev were ready it would help this trade BIG TIME because right now what makes this worse is that we don't have an appropriate partner for this guy. Maybe if Beaulieu take a big step but I think Sergachev is more likely at this point
