-The other guy not being talked a lot about due to the P.K.-exit media storm is Alexander Radulov. Normally the Habs picking up Radulov would’ve been a huge story but it has been over-shadowed by The Trade. So is this really a significant step forward for the Canadiens?

They certainly need more goals and Radulov can score them. He had 23 goals in 53 games with CSKA Moscow in the KHL last season and he had 47 goals and 55 assists in his 154 regular season games with the Nashville Predators.

But is he ready to compete at an elite level in the NHL after four years in the KHL? And has he definitely set aside the character issues that marred his time in Nashville? Let’s just politely note that Montreal is a dangerous town for anyone with a weakness for hanging out in late-night watering holes. Just ask Chris Chelios, Shayne Corson and Andrei Kostitsyn, the latter who was the fellow partying with Radulov that fateful night in Scottsdale, Arizona during the 2012 playoffs.

Hopefully it works out for the Habs but it’s worth underlining that this is the fifth straight scorer Habs GM Marc Bergevin has reached out for during his tenure and the first four – Daniel Brière, P.A. Parenteau, Zack Kassian and Alexander Semin – all turned out to be busts. So it’s another roll of the dice. That said, the team is only on the hook for one year with Radulov.

With the exception of Chuck, who ended the season on a high note, Rad is the player I'm most excited to see.

Really excited to see our top 6. Sure, there's a risk in signing a guy who hasn't played in the NHL since several years, but given how jagr didn't seem to lose a beat. Granted the kill level between the 2 is different, jagr was also much older when he returned.

Yup, can't wait to see our new top 6 in October.

The odds appear right though. About 1 in 5 of these signings should hit the jackpot and hopefully this is the one. He is bar far the most likely to succeed when looking at the previous group.

No kidding, all MB's off season acquisitions ended in busts... Kassian, Semin and Sekac. Ok, they were all dropped early on.

Think he may have finally made a right choice. There's always a gamble, but don't think the odds are against him.

Rad scored more goals than Kovalchuk did last season in the KHL. i doubt that many would think Kavlchuck would be a high risk signing. Rad is younger and comes with a little more sand paper. Kovalchuk is one of the best snipers out there, but he doesn't bring much more, very 1 dimensional. Rad is too to a certain point, but that sand paper does help, his work in the corners should be better than Kovalchuks. I see rad as a pocket Ovy, good size, hands, plays with grit. He can beat your tender with a wrister to the glove side and he can also punish an unsuspecting puck carrier with a big hit.

let's be honest, Ovy even at his age, is still miles above rad, but both play a similar style. i think I'll enjoy watching him play this season. can't be worse than semin.

From HabsEyeOnThePrize, visa issues for Radulov:

  • Radulov, meanwhile, will have to practice back in Moscow as he cannot join the Canadiens until issues with his work visa are sorted out. [TVA Sports]

From Radulov via Igor Eronko

'CSKA offered me more than any #NHL team but I wanted to play in North America' #Habs
And: '#Panthers and #Redwings were the most realistic options besides #Habs. Also I was in talks with #Devils'
And: 'Look at the #Habs now. We have the best goalie in the world and also we've got the world's best defender this summer'
Bold is mine. It remains to be seen.

I think we will see a brand new MT this year.... (maybe ;) )

1. Muller is ready (& waiting B) ) to take MT's spot in the foxhole :D

2. MB did some "trades" lately ;) (LOL)... so MB does NOT want to look bad... if MT slips up "once", I think MB will hand him the foxhole eviction notice.

not sure what that would leave us tho....

MB , DD , Muller in a foxhole ? or does DD go with MT ?

Yeah i saw that too. Makes you wonder how many players feel that way. Not that we landed any big UFAs (were there any really worth acquiring this year?) but there definitely seems to be a perception, amongst players at least, that Weber is draw to playing here.

Quote from Radulov on Monday's press meeting:

"I'm excited to be back in the NHL," said Radulov. "To be part of Montreal is huge.

"It's a hockey town and they always want to go on a run for the Cup and that's the main reason I chose Montreal. This is a chance for me to play in the best league and finally get a chance to win the Cup. That's the main thing."

Watching the game between Canada and Russia last night brought to mind that Rad was not playing for Russia... I wonder why.

Speculation is that he was left off because the Russian brass werent pleased with him leaving the KHL. "Politically motivated" is not always easy to prove but it certainly seems plausible in this case.

The word is obviously out that he's a coach beater.:P

Nice first game! looks really strong on the puck and he can take a hit! like the way he back checks too, his speed and skill are going to help for sure!

Its not an overstatement to say that when he's motivated, he's potentially one of the top 15-20 forwards in the game. He has incredible vision and hand-eye coordination and he can play a finesse or power game. he's very much like Kovalev 2.0

If you listen to what he's said in interviews, he's "changed" - lets hope he has because if thats true, he's going to have a monster season for us. Even Therrien will have little to fault him on as long as he produces.

Quote from Wilde's 'Glass half full' article:

  • Radulov is a power forward. You probably think of him as a scoring forward, but what we have seen mostly so far is a guy who is so hard to take off the puck. In the corners, it's rare he's going to lose that battle. He's going to do a lot of little things right that will make the coach still like him even when a scoring drought happens. I didn't expect that and I'm impressed with that aspect of his game for certain. Radulov had the best 5-on-5 creation in the first half of the game with a gorgeous feed to Pacioretty who almost converted. If you would have asked me what do you like best about Radulov, I would have never thought my answer would be he works so hard.

Yeah, he's looking very very good so far. If MB is smart, he's already trying to sign him for a couple more years before he starts lighting it up.

He's got Kovalev's skill and vision and uses his body in a way that Kovalev only did from time to time. Once he starts burying it, watch out.

Would still like to see him line up next to Patches - Galchenyuk  (or maybe Lekhonen - Galchenyuk - Radulov) to see what he and Chucky could produce together.

100% this looks to be a real steal! he has ten times the heart of Semin and much more skill. I am amazed at how strong he is on the puck a true power forward, he was cruising through the Pens zone like a wrecking ball at times last night and he is not even fully up to speed yet at least I don't think so as he seems to be improving game in game out.

I know it's only been three games but I think that having him on the team changes the entire complexity of our top 6. We finally have two dangerous scoring lines, which gives us plenty of options. Rads is a legitimate scoring threat with size, skill and he's driving the net. Strong along the boards, high energy level, great puck skills. If he keeps this up, I truly hope MB manages to sign him long-term. I actually think he likes it in Montreal, there are several other Russians on the team plus he's always said he enjoyed the time he spent in the QMJHL.
