FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

Smith was injured in Tuesday night's game against Ottawa when he twisted to stop a shot and landed awkwardly on his left leg. He had to be helped from the ice and coach Dave Tippett said Wednesday that Smith is day-to-day with a lower-body injury and the team is awaiting test results. The Coyotes also placed forward Jamie McGinn on injured reserve.

Ryan White plays for the yotes.

In three starts to begin the season, Montoya has a 1.30 goals-against average and a .962 save percentage.]

AZ PP 16.7%, Habs PP, 16.7%
AZ PK,,83.3%, Habs PK, 94.1%
FO% fror AZ is 47.5%, for the Habs it's 44.2%

BTW, Carey hopes, prays, anticipates, aspires, expects, and wishes to play tonight.

Kinda sucks for Montoya to sit on the bench after his strong start to the season but hey, that's the life of a backup goalie I guess.

A strong backup like Montoya is any team's ideal situation.

I thought they wanted to rotate Price in order not to overwork him, so I think we'll see a lot more of Montoya anyway.

I think even if he was a starter, a game off after 3 wouldnt be unusual.

I do think if he keeps up the strong play he may well get 25-30 games which is a lot with Carey Price as your #1.  So far he's looking like a fantastic signing by MB.

Stephane Waite is already on record as saying "we don't know what the right number of games for Carey Price is this year, but 65-70 is too many." That seems to suggest Montoya will get at least 20 games when all is said and done, even if Carey is "healthy."

As for the line-up, still not seeing a great purpose to having Sergachev in when in my view, Pateryn has been very good. Pateryn was, I believe, our top Corsi defenceman in his two games this year and he's been pretty decent at both ends of the ice, whereas Sergachev has been all over the ice and not really sure of where he's supposed to be. Yes, that will improve with time, but I don't see the purpose of giving Sergy 10 minutes a night when you could have Pateryn playing 15-18. It puts a lot more stress on the likes of Markov and Weber and Petry and Emelin, players who are either aging or who have worn down before. It's just not good coaching for the long-term health of the team, and Therrien wearing down his vets has cost us several times towards the end of the season and playoffs before. I especially don't like Therrien saying the only reason Sergachev didn't play last game was because of all the penalties, yet when you look at ice time at ES, he had about 8 minutes, whereas most of the other guys had double that. Sergy was clearly not being used at ES, not just because of special teams, so yet another lie from the MT/MB duo.

Wholeheartedly agree.
On a very weak team maybe you put Sergachev in the lineup, let him get some growing pains under his belt & burn that year off his ELC.

We actually have a pretty strong defensive group.  Pateryn and Redmond are both, at this moment, better players than Sergachev. Im not disputing Sergy's potential - he's a top 4, maybe even a top 2 guy. Redmond and Pateryn are most likely #5-6 (maybe Pateryn is a #4) but right now they are better players and since we dont need Sergachev to Jump into a top 4 role and we wont give him the ice time to do so even if we did, it seems sort of pointless to have him in the lineup.   Send him to Junior. Let him dominate.
