I don't believe habs management is blind to how this team is playing tonight. Shea noted that each night it's evident what they need to work on and who isn't showing up despite taking the win. No one in the building is saying "Don't worry, Carey will take care of it." I belive MB said , we are a playoff team with Carey Price , or something along those lines . I know for a fact they're what they're saying, because it's been the same refrain from the team for the better part of half a decade: "if we keep playing with grit and character, we'll keep getting the results", and that's meaningless folderol. I think certain members of the management team shoved that back in Therrien's mouth after seeing how last year ended. The talk is still about "We went out and got proven winners, leaders, guys who hate losing- it tears at them." But we were looking to pick up skilled players this summer. Bergevin knows you can't fill a lineup with 18 Weises. I think Bergevin and Muller have the right mindset, and Therrien is just insulated by that. If Price is gone for a smaller stretch, say a couple games in the playoffs, we have a better backup this year in Montoya- who can hold the fort for some stretches but shouldn't be expected to have to take over as an exceptional starter if Price is injured. Gallagher was gone for a long stretch. We've brought in Weber and Radulov as big pieces. And the core is hopefully continuing to get better, especially Galchenyuk. meh , same as last year . System is crap , relies on the goalie to bail them out . Montoya is acareer back up ./

Agreed. And it was good to see Beaulieu acknowledge this was their worst played game. That room knows. On an individual note, didn't realize 37 career shutouts for him as well, that's very impressive at this stage of his career.

And if the team sometimes falls into the mindset that they don't have to be as tight defensively or as strong on the puck or as responsible with their passing then they're responsible to recognize that and fix it, especially when they see the amount of slack that has to be picked up because of it. Montoya is a career backup, but a reliable one.

ramcharger440
Vancover played as hard as they can tonight they are not as bad as the record they have but they are sliding downhill fast! our team looked scared to lose but with the best goalie on earth and some alright play by a couple of our players we pulled through. but a game like this will of course give the sour grapes crowd who hate the PK trade and are not happy with our coaching and mangement plenty to crow about. still the view is nice from the top and our used up old school d man we got in the trade is still way ahead of the curve where it counts the win loss ratio! Regis22
The PK trade is what it is . He's gone . The team won great . But it's nothing to brag about . The team played awful . 79 shots against in the last 2 games against 2 not very good teams .

No one in the building is saying "Don't worry, Carey will take care of it." I`m not so sure about the bolded part. The truth is that the Habs have played this way for over three years now. In the first couple of seasons, the Habs were winning games and management turned a blind eye to the fact we were being outplayed on most nights. Last season, they recognized we were losing but chose to put that all on the fact that Carey was injured instead of trying to fix other deficiencies with the team. When we win, they choose to ignore any and all problems. When we lose, they blame it on injuries or the fact we were tired or some other excuse. But they still never bother pinpointing the fact our systems play and coaching has been awful. Marc Bergevin pretty much said exactly "Don't worry, Carey will take care of it" this past off-season. That was his primary reason for not relieving Therrien of his coaching duties, in fact. Is this roster better than it was last year? Sure. Can Carey hide problems? Absolutely, and the team can win games this way for a long time so long as Carey is in goal. But have management and coaching earned the benefit of the doubt that they know how to fix the reasons why we're being outshot and outplayed by far inferior rosters? No. Because they've had 3-4 years to identify the problems, and the only thing they ever come up with is that we need to be 100% healthy to win and we need more grit. Yeah this is the biggest concern to me. Our roster is actually pretty good but we play a game totally reliant on Price. This is not the same as the 80s and 90s habs who played a guy around Roy (a system based on letting him see the first shot and clearing the rebound) we seem to basically not play a system at all other than "hope Price stops it" The good news is that as good as Price was 2 years ago, he actually looks better to me right now which is almost unfathomable. The bad news is that our entire "game" is relying on one player.
kinot-1
The fact of the matter is that sometimes you win games you have no business winning, and sometimes you lose games you should win (see Van). Every team goes thru it. We'll see how the Habs respond in Columbus.
