Habs-92-93
I have always been big Iginla fan. Not sure what he can bring now but part of me would love to see him in a habs jersey. He deserves to win a cup and would love to see it happen, hopefully with a Canadien team. Has anybody brought up Lecavalier yet for old times sake? fansince1948
We keep hearing Pateryn is on the block, not sure why. Maybe because of the wife's tweeting a dislike for French Canadians? For me. 1st draft pick or not, Beaulieu has a problem with uniform colors & makes too many great passes to the opposition & turns it over to checkers too often. He'd be my choice as trade bait for maybe a power center. I believe in this defense and think they will tighten up under Julien.

Well the "why" do we keep hearing he's on the block is because Marc Bergevin sent a league-wide memo saying he was available in a trade so... Not sure if its because of slump that I'm picking players out as he never used to be on my radar. He is a piece that has value and could help fetch a top 6 when packaged. Saying that, I don't know if we could afford to loose him.

kinot-2
Here's some players "available", and who their linked to, by the Hockey Writers. BigTed3
Duchene is a yes for me if the price comes down. Hanzal and Burrows are a now. Smith I'm kind of ambivalent on. I do think Berglund could be a nice add for the right price though, maybe a bit cheaper than Duchene and still a guy who could be a 2nd line center. He's a big guy, he's got a little bit more offensive upside than a Lars Eller, and we might be able to re-sign him after this year for something in the 4.5-5M range. Would be even better if they could grab Berglund AND Shattenkirk together, but only if Shattenkirk signs an extension as part of the trade. Bob McKenzie reporting today that the Blues have had three trades in place over the past year as part of sign-and-trades, one with the Oilers and then more recently with two other teams, but in each case Shattenkirk couldn't come to terms with the new team (including one offer for 7 years at 6M a season). Bottom line for me is that he'd need to sign a reasonable deal and if he does, in my view, it makes Weber expendable by trade in the off-season. RicochetII
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/if-the-habs-don-t-make-deadline-moves-they-re-in-big-trouble~1065141 Basically, Bob MacKenzie points out that Bergevin almost has to make moves, unless he believes we are so bad that it isn't worth spending assets to get us back on track. He goes on to say that, given the moves Bergevin did make (bringing in Weber, Shaw, Radulov) and the players he let go, with no Carey Price injury excuse this season, it would be tough to sell the idea that he did nothing because things went off the rails. I agree. Doing nothing would be another failure at this point. It would also make the Weber and Shaw additions look that much worse. He also mentions the prospect of blowing it up and starting to deal core players if we do nothing with this season.

He had a chance last year to tank , play the prospects and see if they were ready , and at least try to get the lottery pick but MT insisted on playing the veterans

See to me, Markov and Plekanec are no longer part of the core. You're not building around these guys any more, they're more role players just being paid a lot of money. The core IMO is Price, Weber, Petry, Pacioretty, Gallagher, Galchenyuk, and Radulov. That's the foundation of your line-up. Danault, Lehkonen, McCarron, and Beaulieu could become part of that core, but they're not there yet. The rest of the guys are role players IMO. I guess it also depends on who specifically MacKenzie was referring to as the core players. Either way, we're in bad shape and we need a major change. BigTed3
Patrick Eaves goes to Anaheim for a conditional 2nd round pick (could become a 1st). High price to pay for middle-6 winger.
BigTed3
So already Berglund and Eaves, two of our targets, off the market, along with Hainsey and Stone. Who else is MB looking at? Still sitting there are Duchene, Landeskog, Shattenkirk, Sharp, Hanzal, Burrows, Roussel, Duclair... pickings getting a little slimmer now though. I think Hainsey and Stone went for reasonable market value but Eaves going for a pick that could become a 1st rounder is pretty darn steep. Sets the bar a little high for me, albeit Jim Nill is a pretty crafty GM in Dallas.
