BigTed3
The playoffs are just about set... so tell us who you got? Who's going to win the opening round series? Who's going to win the Cup? Who'll be the leading scorer in the playoffs? Who'll win the Conn Smythe? How will the Habs do?

maas_art
General concensus seems to be that we'll make it to the final four. Im an optimist and pretty much always vote for us to win (which obviously hasnt happened for a looooooong time). Im still hopeful this is our year but i think we can all agree: anything less than a top 4 finish will be a colossal disappointment. This team is definitely good enough to make it to the final four and with the Rags and then either Bruins or Sens, as our first two matchups Id be very very disappointed if we couldnt at least get a date with the Caps. vegasrick
All right, let's see here..... Round 1 MTL over NYR in 6 (could go fewer games) OTT over BOS in 6 (Boston isn't that great this year) WSH over TOR in 5 (this will be fun to watch the Laffs get DESTROYED) PIT over CBJ in 7 (the BHL loves Crosby too much still) CHI over NSH in 5 (Blackhawks are an absolute powerhouse) MIN over STL in 6 (could go either way here) ANA over CGY in 5 (Ducks still look strong) SJS over EDM in 7 (gallant effort by the Oil, but the Sharks are still bitter from losing the Cup) Round 2 MTL over OTT in 6 (we have their number) WSH over PIT in 7 (this one also could go either way) CHI over MIN in 5 (none of these early teams will be able to keep up with Chicago) SJS over ANA in 7 (Sharks have something to prove) Round 3 (Conference Championships) MTL over WSH in 7 (we seem to rise to these occasions when the odds are against) CHI over SJS in 6 (Sharks get outclassed by a better team) Finals MTL over CHI in 7 (we're all hoping for the best, and this could be it) As long as we stay healthy, we have as good a chance as anyone to take the Cup. One thing I firmly believe is that this year's Habs team will NOT self-destruct, implode, collapse or otherwise melt down. If they get outplayed or outclassed, so be it. But I don't see them being outcoached or giving up and throwing in the towel. This could be the most exciting playoff season since the last Cup run, or at least since 2010 when we surprised both Washington and Pittsburgh to get to the Conference Finals (where we proceeded to melt down right on cue again). And if it doesn't happen, well, now we have (at least) two kinots to blame.

Regis22
http://www.oddsshark.com/nhl/stanley-cup-futures Who has the Easiest Path? Montreal Canadiens +1400: This is debatable with their tough first-round draw with the Rangers but I think the additions the Habs made at the deadline give them the edge and the depth in this series. Look to Carey Price to steal a few games in Round 1 to get Montreal through and for the Canadiens to steamroll whoever they play in Round 2. Two of the three matchups between Montreal and New York in the regular season were one-goal games. These should all be tight. Go Canadiens in six games for this series – as long as Weber is OK to play.

maas_art
Nice read here breaking down our first round series. The author indicates that as long as we can really play the Kreider line hard, we should be ok. Their defense is very porous after McDonaugh and up front they mostly have trouble sustaining any pressure when Kreider isnt on the ice. Quote Much has been written about Shea Weber this year, but regardless of everything else, he has been a highly effective suppressor of crease/slot opposition shots. Kreider's wheelhouse is Weber's front lawn, and the grizzled veteran isn't going to take kindly to this constant trespassing. Alain Vigneault will not shy away from best-on-best deployment - in the twogames vs. Montreal in the Julien era, Kreider played 40% of his 5v5 minutes against Weber, despite both games being at Madison Square Garden. Put these things together and the Kreider-Weber matchup, especially around the slot, is going to be one to watch all series.
