I have a feeling he is going to come into his own this year he looked pretty good a couple of times last year.

im quite happy we didnt lose him in the ED.  I felt like there were a number of players we could lost but Davidson and Hudon were the two i didnt want to.

I think he will do quite well, if given the chance - just not sure where he's going to fit into the lineup. If we resign markov thats your #2LD and i would assume Schlemko will be higher on the depth charts for #3LD.  Id be pretty surprised if Bergevin doesnt trade for a #1 LD  so thats all 3 LD positions locked up.

Waived today.

Ya.  Look, if this team lives and dies by Brandon Davidson we've got bigger problems.  He's a #6-7 dman - BUT - does anyone besides our management group think he's been worse than Alzner?   I would argue he's been better than Alzner, Morrow and for much of the year, Benn.  The only guys on our roster who are clearly and consistently better than him are Weber, Petry, Mete and Schlemko.

I get that the optics of waiving Alzner would be bad, but MB says over and over he's doesnt make moves to be popular, he makes moves to make our club better.  To  me, making Davidson our #8, thus waiving him, does not make this club better.

The bold part is the crux of it. Davidson is a depth player but this team has had to lean on depth the past two years. Barberio was a depth player and it cost us to let him be exposed to claim and then have to go scrambling to find 5-6-7 guys afterwards. I'll take the 4 guys you mentioned and Jerabek over Davidson, and I'll probably take Benn over Davidson too, but Davidson has been better than Alzner and Morrow and I'd rather have waived one of the latter two first. I think there's a decent chance Davidson gets claimed (apparently Edmonton only traded him cause they thought they would lose him in the ED, so they're one possibility) whereas I doubt Morrow gets claimed and I'd be relieved if Alzner did.

Meh. I'd rather Davidson than Morrow but I can't bring myself to care about this. There's 9D on the roster and the coach prefers Morrow so Davidson's the one to go.

I'm the first one on the dump Alzner at all costs train but Bill Belichick is probably the only guy in sports that does it less than a third of the way into year 1 of a 5y/4.6M per year contract.
