#21 David Schlemko 2017-18

Solid trade. He's not the saviour but he was acquired basically for free and is probably the 4th best defender on the team. He's a non-trivial upgrade on Emelin and just having Emelin out and one of Schlemko/Benn/Davidson in his place is a plus.

He's also nice insurance if Jerabek doesn't pan out, Schlemko is ideally your #5 but he'd be serviceable next to Petry on a second pairing while trying to find another #4 LD through a trade/at the deadline.

What is wrong with this picture? In 2014-15 he played for AZ, then he went to Dallas the same year. That same year (2014-15) he went to Calgary, then the next year he went to NJ., the next year he went to SJ. Now we have him. WTH is wrong with him that MB seems to overlook? If he was so good, why didn't those other teams keep him?

Can someone explain to me what exactly does he bring to the ice?

He brings nothing, we should have kept Subban. Traded Galchenyk for Drouin straight up,kept beuliue and signded Rads, trded danual, jullsen and 1st for deuchence. Singed Markov

We would have Subban, Markov, Sergaev, Mete and Beuliu on dee

Deuchene and Drouin dow the middle..

Price in Nets.... good core I think

for who though?

Id be all for getting Shea Theodore - he would be a great compliment to Weber and isnt a teenager. I dont think LV would move him unless they got a top 4 dman in return though.

He is a good all-round, versatile defensman.  He has been moved because he's never been a 'make or break' player.  He's good enough to play on probably any third pairing (and quite a few 2nd pairings) in the league but he'll never be a 'core' player... which makes him expendable.  Teams have exposed him when they were more worried about protecting young stars, they've traded him etc.

I do think he'd be an effective player in our top 6.  I dont think he'll be able to play next to Weber for more than a few games at a time, although im willing to give him a chance if we have no other choices.

Very curious to see where he ends up in our lineup.  I didnt see him play a lot in SJ but did watch him a fair bit in NJ and Id say that he probably fits our top 4 better than Alzner.

Would Julien use him next to Petry and bump alzner to the 3rd pair? I

Should be very interesting to watch...

Has been reassigned to Laval for conditioning. He will play tomorrow.

not sure if its 100% he'll play tomorrow but i think they are hopeful.  Benn moved to the left on the 3rd pairing (Davidson playing right) so it looks like Benn might be odd man out if Schlemko makes his return. Davidson was definitely the better of the 2 last game.

But if Alzner is on the 3rd pairing, he doesn't mesh well with either Benn or Davidson either. None of those guys moves the puck well or skates particularly strongly. There really isn't a good spot for Alzner in the line-up, unless we acquire Karlsson or Subban to play next to him.

I agree.  The only thing we can hope for is that Julien realizes  Mete - Weber   and Schlemko - Petry is our top 4 and that leaves us with Alzner, Davidson, Benn and Jerabek for the last pairing.   Clearly not all of those guys are a fit for each other and one of them (Alzner) is making way too much money for the 3rd pairing.

If Julien decides he (Alzner) is not one of our top 4, and plays him out of the top 2 pairings, will Bergevin move him?  Maybe.  He's made two surprising moves (Streit and Martinsen) already this year so who knows.

Still has pain in his hand. Did not make the trip out West with the team. He's becoming the new Carey Price of the injury world.

while you should never hang your team's hopes on one player, you get why an injury to Carey Price or Sidney Crosby etc would be a tough thing for a team. When we are this concerned over David Schlemko (no offence to him) then we are in a very bad place as a team... :P

Wasn't referring to the importance of Schlemko, more just the nature of his injury, with suggestions that it wasn't bad and would be day-to-day, then prolonging, then some indication he would be back, then a set-back, and then ambiguity of duration, etc. Schlemko is a better player for us on paper than any of Alzner, Benn, or Davidson, but then again, we haven't seen him in our line-up and he may be just as bad. Agreed that our defence corps is so bad right now that even having to discuss Schlemko's return date isn't good though.

i was watching Lantichambre on RDS the other night and one of the ex NHLers on the panel has played with Shlemko and Hemsky, he says it does not take much to get them out of the lineup injurywise i believe he even said Hemsky was out once for a stubbed toe! odd to have bothered with these two in the first place!
