Honestly I have no idea who we would want from the stars thats currently in the minors.  Dickinson is interesting but he's with the big club i think. Gurianov would be nice but he's a winger.  Im assuming MB would want either Elie or Hintz, since both are left wingers.

the only thing  I would be after in dallas is Heiskanen, but our scouts would  not see him in the ahl...

I was hearing on TSN that some teams might not wait for the TD, and prefer to make a trade before it. Mainly because of the "period of adjustment" where the new player has other things on his mind such as new teammates, family, new digs, new city, and other things on his mind where he isn't able give his all to the new team. So when he has these matters mostly settled, he can give his all. It might take 6, 7 or maybe 10 games to get comfortable enough to play his game to his fullest.

Renaud Lavoie suggests Max Pacioretty won't be traded before the deadline unless another team offers an NHL-ready player like Robbie Fabbri. Lavoie says this could be a fit because Fabbri is out for the year and so can't help Stl but could be an exciting add for Bergevin and that he might be willing to deal Pacioretty for Fabbri.

***

On another note, reports that Calgary has been the team most heavily scouting the Habs, followed closely by Columbus and Vegas. No specifics about which players they are scouting.

exactly the wrong mentality, and a big reason why MB cant be trusted with our rebuild. but we'll just continue with our modern tradition of doing everything wrong

I hope Max is traded before the deadline, but... if the return is good at the draft, that would be fine too. I'm just worried Bergevin is going to extend Pleaknec tomorrow, sign one has-been defender in July, and pretend that he's fixed everything by September.

Exactly. I heard a very disturbing rumour floated on tsn, that maybe they are considering this year an outlier, and everything will be back to"normal" (which is what, this team sucking and winning games based on unsustainable goaltending miracles?) next year.

And that chilled my bones. that is exactly what I expect from this regime. so lets keep the band together, and maybe next year!!!!!

I can tell you I wont watch 1 minute of this garbage if thats what happens.

On the flip positive side, marinaro is convinced based on the sources that he has that max is as good as gone, and thats a huge step towards reality, so we will just have to wait and see

Yeah I'm really worried that MB (and every other bad GM in the league) is going to just look at New Jersey and figure things will magically turn around in the summer. Problem being that instead of fleecing a bad GM for a top 3 player at his position like Taylor Hall, we have a bad GM that got fleeced and traded away a top 3 player at his position.

I think there are 4 likely scenarios:

1) We do nothing at the deadline because Molson and the BOG  ARE going to fire MB and dont want him making any more moves (internal trade freeze).  MB is fired in the summer.

2) MB has a list of players he's allowed to trade and (for some reason) Molson allows him to do this even though they are going to fire him this summer.  Maybe trades have to be approved by the BOG too. MB is fired in the summer.

3) Molson still has faith in MB but we are clearly in rebuild (or at least retool) mode.  Molson may well step down as President and bring in a better hockey mind - someone for MB to answer to but ultimately.... MB is safe this summer.

4) MB does nothing (or just minor stuff) because as you noted, they believe this year was just an off-year and we'll come back strong next year.  MB is safe this summer.

Obviously option 1 or 2 are probably what all of us want.  I dont *think* option 4 is likely - i mean are they *that* delusional?? but who knows.   Dont love option 3 but honestly i think it may be the most likely.

Five Oily bits I've got:

1) Weber would put all the other D in their proper positioning, and would add character and leadership (yes I know but it is true)

2) If they trade RNH, then Draisaitl will come off of McDavid's wing and play as 2nd line center

3) Draisaitl is not Mr. Popular in the room

4) Lucic is getable

5) Fanbase not loving GM, failed to address needs (ex: backup goalie) and loses big trades (Hall)

Not saying any of these are going to happen or even we want to be a part of, just some more info on the Oil situation.

Number 5 is the concern to me.

I agree with #1 - in fact, and ive said this a number of times now, i think if you sent Weber to the oilers (with either Nurse or Klefbom + ____ coming back) Edmonton's defense would suddenly be miles better.   Weber stabilizes the one of those 2 who didnt come back to us,  then you have Larsson, Sekera rounding out your top for.  Russell, Benning, Davidson give you options on that 3rd pairing.  Its ten times better than what htey have now because Weber means everyone else moves back one step to a position they can handle.

But because Chiarelli has messed up royally on a couple of recent trades, I dont know if he makes a huge move like Weber for RNH + Nurse.     (plus i dont know if MB makes that move either)

Interesting that Draisaitl is not popular, never heard that before.

Honestly, it's hard to know with this organizational "leadership." Maybe they are that delusional. If that is what happens, I will continue with my boycott of purchasing Montreal Canadiens products (attending games, merchandise, etc.).

Patches for Kyle Turris from the Preds?

No thank you.  He's a quality 2 way centre and would look fantastic on a Julien team but he's only a year younger than Patches and if we move on from MP I want to get waaaay younger, like Robert Thomas or similar.  Dont think the Preds would give him up after just acquiring him either.

Thanks to this current Owner & GM, I myself have stopped purchasing any Molson products, Habs paraphernalia and have watched roughly only a third of the games so far this season.

Eklund says we're "very interested" in Brandon Saad.    Sounds about right for this group.  Get a second tier player (albeit, really good but still not elite) at a position we're relatively strong at while we continue to use guys like Byron and Danault in our top 6 centre slot.

According to Ek we're looking to move Pacioretty or Galchenyuk but not both.

FWIW,

"Shortly before a Thursday news conference with general manager Jeff Gorton and team president Glen Sather, the Rangers sent a letter to fans that signals this era is over.

Confirming The Post’s report from last month, the team announced it will be sellers leading up to the Feb. 26 trade deadline. They also placed defenseman Brendan Smith, who signed a four-year, $17.4 million contract in the offseason, on waivers.

Anyone on that team that we might want?
