Totally.  Imagine getting a chance to play behind Crosby and Malkin for a playoff run?

You're probably right but, with a guy like Plekanec who has worked hard for a long time and never made it particularly close, I think he'd relish the chance.

Yes, I agree... but with an aging Gionta apparently now available for close to nothing... he may not get that chance

Well... it looks like Deslauriers will be traded per a friend of his.

"EXCLUSIF: On me glisse à l'oreille que Nicolas Deslauriers sera encore une fois laissé de côté ce soir, qu'une transaction pourrait fort bien survenir au cours des prochains jours. On ne veut pas qu'il se blesse, on prépare les partisans? Semble que oui! #CH #Habs #Canadiens."

#BREAKING - Ottawa Senators discussing a HUGE trade with the Edmonton Oilers. This trade could potentially be the biggest trade we have ever seen. E.Karlsson+Hoffman for Puljujarvi+Nugent Hopkins+Klefbom+2018 first. Hearing Sens want Nurse in the deal. #WOW

No legit sources discussing this yet. I think this is just clickbait from unreliable people.

So, MB is gonna blame this dismal season on a forth liner?

Isn't that why it's called the 'Rumors" thread? Even what are considered good sources (which everyone debates about the sources) they still often are wrong.

Sure. I don't mind people posting any rumor they hear, but there's a difference between Bob McKenzie saying he heard the Habs are about to finalize a deal and Eklund or some other random fake twitter account doing it. Anyone can post anything on the internet these days, but there's a difference in legitimacy between sources. I think it also helps to clarify where a rumor comes from in terms of trying to figure out how likely it is to actually happen.

To add to the Karlsson rumors though, Nick Kypreos tonight saying he wouldn't be surprised to see Karlsson traded before the deadline.

Louis Jean suggests St. Louis had inquired about Pacioretty. He adds Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou would be two names of interest to the Habs but that he doesn't know whether Stl will discuss them or not. He also says he thinks the odds Pacioretty actually gets traded before the deadline are low.

Karlsson going and Pacman staying would hurt our tank odds against Ottawa though.

New York Islanders Had two scouts at the LV game the most of any team and Grant McCagg could not help but elaborate an interesting theory about it. The former NHL scout and founder of the recrutes.ca site wondered if the Islanders could offer their two first-round picks and another piece in exchange of Max Pacioretty.

McCagg mentions that if the Islanders wish to retain the services of John Tavares in the long run, Garth Snow must make sure to win quickly now and the addition of Pacioretty could offer better chances for his team to make the playoffs and hope to make a serious run during the playoffs.

1. McCagg's offering an example of a potential trade, but I doubt he has any kind of insider info. He's one of those guys who tries to pretend he has more info or experience than he does, so with a grain of salt...

2. I'm sure the Isles would love to grab Pacioretty. The scouts being there is real. But lots of other teams also scouting us too.

3. I personally wouldn't deal Pacman for two firsts and a prospect from the Isles. The return for Pacman HAS to include a blue chip 1C prospect or 1D prospect. It can't just be two picks and a winger prospect. The Habs have to address one of their key needs with a Pacioretty trade.

Seems there's all kinds of rumours out there. Methinks there will be a trade that no-one has thought of.

This is what it is in general.  I personally would take a solid #2C like RNH for Patches, but the general point being we must address one of our key needs if we trade Pacioretty.

There has to be a win now team that wants Pacioretty and will mortgage some of their future for him.  That's how the current system is designed.

Pretty much. No one is trading their current 1C for Pacioretty. No one is giving us a player who is lights out now and under the age of 25. So in order to try and fill that need, we're going to have to take on a younger player who hasn't yet proven himself at the NHL level. We take a gamble with a chance of a high reward, they get a sure thing who could help for two playoff runs on a reasonable contract and the option to re-sign if things go well.

Awesome! A LW for a LW! Just what we would need.

Schwartz is a natural centre I do believe.  He can definitely play centre but has been playing wing in St Louis for a while.

That said, i would be unhappy to lose Pacioretty to St Louis without having a guy like Thomas or Kyrou coming back. There are better options in st. Louis than Schwartz - who is a great player but prone to injuries.

A really confusing day in rumor land:

- Regarding Weber, Julien first says Weber could play this week. But when asked, he later says Weber can't get a skate on over his injured foot right now. Brian Lawton claims Weber is one of the players he wouldn't be surprised to see traded before the deadline, yet then an article comes out from the French news saying Weber might be shut down for the season if he doesn't make any progress. So who knows what to believe.

- Le Journal de Montreal interviewed a few scouts about Pacioretty. They said he has big value on the market, probably more than Kane. One scout listed Minnesota, Florida, and St. Louis as the three teams having the best fit, all having young centers they could send back (Eriksson-Ek, Thomas, and Borgstrom being the names thrown out). Most pundits don't believe Pacman will be dealt at the deadline though. Some believe Robert Thomas is untouchable. Others not so much.

- Deslauriers was rumored to be on the market. Now he's re-signed on a two-year deal. So I guess he's staying.

Its Eklund, so dont take it for gospel but his "sources" say we're very interested in Niklas Hjalmarsson  Makes perfect sense, we already have Weber and Alzner, lets get another 'shut down' defenseman - and he's almost 31.

Hopefully this is his usual hogwash but its just "bergevin-ish' sounding enough to be true.

I really can`t see justification in that one. MB`s job is already on life support. A move like that is suicidal.
