tony5775
Last time he was here he played the wing on the fourth line. Only played defense for the power play. If they do that again this could make sense. If they continue to cover Weber, then Streit could really help improve the PP.

Lets hope our player assessment team do not see them as interchangeable. Streit at 700k to be an 8th defenseman/PP specialist/insurance policy, ok, fine. Streit anywhere near our top 4 (or even top 6 unless there are injuries)... please no.

That, to me , is exactly what Markov has become. There is no need to pay 6 mil for the same thing.

I was sorta hoping for Markie at $6+ per season over 2 years just for the pure stupidity of it but this is good too!!!!!! ...what this means is the Markov deal may still be alive ..... IT'S ALIVE .................. Hey ... we can pair them together and call them our MARKIE MARK defense ... sort of a not so secret weapon ....... With this GM ..... almost every day is like Christmas morning and a new present is waiting under the tree. Now lately .... with what has been left under the tree I have been thinking we were getting a pony but NO!!!! This is an even better cadeau from Mssr Bergevin .... merci bien .......... BigTed3
I don't see how this helps us. Yes, he can be an asset on the PP, but is he really going to be one of the top 6 D men at even strength? I'd easily put Weber, Petry, Benn, Schlemko, and Alzner ahead of him on the depth chart, so that means he's battling Davidson, Morrow, and Jerabek for a spot on the team. Once again, MB seems to be stocking up on lower-level depth but has done nothing to address the top end of his team, neither at center nor on D. It would be fine if this move was an adjunct move and he has 2-3 more deals up his sleeve to address the real issues, but he never does: Bergevin simply stockpiles depth and assumes this is a substitute for real talent. Like i said, at $700k i dont really care about the signing, assuming he'll be in the press box most of they year, but the optics look bad, considering Markie still sits by the phone waiting... Regis22
Nice to see the current Habs Management building their D through the draft even though it was another Habs GM who selected Streit 13 years ago .
kinot-2
FWIW, Arpon Basu shared a story re Streit: "Basu was scheduled to interview Streit about eventual number one overall pick Nico Hischier and state of hockey in his native Switzerland after a morning skate. The journalist waited for the team to come off the ice and when they finally started heading back to the locker room he could not locate Streit. He then looked at a nearby monitor and say the 39-year-old defender was still on the ice and doing laps around the rink at full speed. He continued to skate for an additional 20 minutes after the rest of the team concluded their practice. This is some great insight about how important conditioning is to Streit as he continues to try to play at a high level."

I am sure streit works hard and I suspect if he gets decent powerplay time he may even get back to a 40+ point season again but his work in the defensive zone is so bad, i dont think the scoring can offset the defensive lapses. Especially in the playoffs.
