The Sharks (20-12-4) are coming off a 6-0 loss to the Stars in Dallas on New Year’s Eve, but are 6-2-2 in their last 10 games. This is the second and last meeting between these two teams this season. The Sharks beat the Canadiens 5-2 on Oct. 17 in San Jose. With eight goals in 39 games, Pacioretty is on pace to finish the season with 16 goals after four straight seasons with at least 30. Other slumping players with the Canadiens include Jonathan Drouin (no goals and one assist in the last nine games), Charles Hudon (no goals in nine games) Tomas Plekanec (no goals in seven games and one in the last 25), Phillip Danault (no goals in five games and one in his last eight) and Paul Byron (no goals in five games). Brendan Gallagher leads the Canadiens in scoring with 15-6-21 totals, but ranks 148th on the NHL scoring list. Following Gallagher with the Canadiens are Alex Galchnyuk (9-12-21), Danault (7-14-21), Pacioretty (8-12-20), Andrew Shaw (9-9-18) and Drouin (5-13-18). Goalie Carey Price has an 11-13-2 record with a 2.97 goals-against average and .907 save percentage. The Canadiens rank 29th in the NHL in offence, scoring an average of 2.54 goals per game, and 21st in defence, allowing an average of 3.10 goals. They rank 18th on the power play (19.0 per cent) and 26th in penalty-killing (77.7 per cent). Logan Couture leads the Sharks in scoring with 15-11-26 totals, followed by 38-year-old Joe Thornton (7-19-26), defenceman Brent Burns (6-19-25), Joe Pavelski (8-15-23) and Tomas Hertl (10-12-22). Couture has 6-8-14 totals in 10 career games vs. the Canadiens. Burns has scored all six of his goals and has 18 of his 25 points since Nov. 22, leading all NHL defencemen in points during that span. No. 1 goalie Martin Jones has a 13-9-3 record with a 2.57 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. The Sharks rank 26th in the NHL in offence, scoring an average of 2.67 goals per game, and fifth in defence, allowing an average of 2.53 goals. They rank sixth in the NHL on the power play (21.9 per cent) and second in penalty-killing (85.5 per cent).
