This could easily merge with the jokes thread but here goes.

Trumps latest brainstorm,,,, let's arm the teachers. Just what a frustrated teacher needs,,, a gun. Does he stay up all night thinking of stupid things to do?? Unfortunately I don't ever see Americans giving up their guns. As long as the NRA is writing those checks, politicians will never let it happen.

I like this one. "For a man once convicted of trying to kill a politician, Jaspal Atwal seems to have had little trouble getting his picture taken with MPs, cabinet ministers and Liberal party leaders, including Justin Trudeau.

Ya know, I love reading editorials on Trudeau, and tonight I read one in the NP. re Trudeau's costumes in India. I especially enjoy reading the comments after the commentary.

Some people are geniuses with their comments.

Here's just one, commenting on the Trudeau family dress in India:

Rumour is next month Modi (PM of India) is coming to Canada and will attend the welcoming ceremony in hockey gear followed by a selection of Celine Dion outfits and finally to recognize the Trudeau government philosophy he will dress as an environmentally friendly completely gender neutral beaver with a feminist perspective."

Brackets are mine.

You can't make this stuff up.

Trudeau actually flew in an Indian chef from Vancouver to prepare authentic Indian meals so an exclusive Indian themed meal could be made for the Trudeau family.

Apparently, it's hard to find an authentic Indian chef in India.

Trudeau is on his "Embarrass the Canadians" tour. Are we paying for his family too or is that being covered by the Aga Khan?

I prefer to look at it this way. He's embarrassing his wife, children, the Liberal party, and anyone who voted Liberal. The more screw-ups he and his entourage makes, the less likely they will be voted in again. I love how he's tripping over himself trying to justify his trip when only 1/2 day was about business.

BTW, methinks you know exactly who's paying for his trip. :P

You can't make this stuff up. This is how Trudeau responds to a question re Trump's suggestion that he (Trump) might put tariffs on steel. Starts at .25 secs, ends around 56 secs.

Another senseless school shooting in the US today(Texas). Enough is enough. Time for the US to focus attention on their own homegrown terrorist organization,,,, THE NRA. Trump needs to lead a movement to amend or abolish the 2nd amemdment that these cowards hide behind. How many kids need to die before politicians in that country grow a pair? :5155:

After some research, mainly the Washington Post, here's what I found:

"The average American gun owner owns three guns, according to a 2015 survey conducted by Harvard and Northwestern University. More than a half of them own just one or two, whereas 14% of them–7.7 million or 3% of the US population–own anywhere between eight to 140 guns.Oct 6, 2017

In recent years the NRA has said it has 5 million dues-paying members. There's some reason to be skeptical of this figure, but let's assume 5 million is right.  Those 5 million members only comprise somewhere between 6 and 7 percent of American gun owners. That would imply that the overwhelming majority of American gun owners -- over 90 percent of them -- do not belong to the NRA."

The thing is that the NRA donates to a lot of senators, governors, or public figures. Basically saying that if you want to run, we will give you XXX dollars, and if you want to win, you take it. And if you want to keep the donations from the NRA coming, you will dance to their tune.

Personally, the way I see it, is if the "coming of voter age" students, ask each candidate (presidential, senator, or governor), if they are in favour of restrictions on certain type of guns (say assault weapons to start), and vote in blocks to those candidates who favour gun control, then things will change. It will take time, but it can happen. School shootings will always happen, because the shooter knows there is no one there to harm him/her. Very seldom are there any shootings in say, Walmart, where there maybe some open carry owners or people with a CCW license.

From CNN:

We're only 20 weeks into 2018, and there have already been 22 school shootings where someone was hurt or killed. That averages out to more than 1 shooting a week.

The parameters CNN followed in this count are:

A shooting that involved at least one person being shot (not including the shooter)

A shooting that occurred on school grounds

We included grades K through college/university level

We included gang violence, fights and domestic violence

We included accidental discharge of a firearm as long as the first two parameters are met

Just after I posted the above, I came across this from PuckDaddy:

Predators endorse Nashville mayoral candidate, raising questions.

“I want to urge everyone to get out and vote,” Henry says in the video. “I also want to let Smashville know that we’re supporting Mayor David Briley, and we hope that you join us for that as well. But regardless of who you vote for, get out and vote. Make your voice heard.”

Briley is one of 13 candidates running to fill out the final year of former mayor Megan Barry, who resigned earlier this year. Briley is a progressive figure in a progressive city. Briley also happens to be the current head of a city government that the Predators are negotiating with regarding a longer-term lease at Bridgestone Arena. Make of those facts what you will."

It's the NRA that thrives in situations like today. We'll get those rogue politicians speaking out about tighter gun control and the NRA will jump all over them, telling Americans that they're trying to take their guns away. What happens???? Gun sales go though the roof..

To me the solution would be simple. Amend the 2nd amendment,,, which is antiquated and not relevant to today's society. It will take years to have an effect, but what other options are there?

Americans that are appalled by events like today can easily make a statement, by simply surrendering their weapons to the nearest police station for destruction. Family's with children in the house should especially take this kind of action. If enough of them get on board, it would send a strong statement to that terrorist organization (NRA) and maybe the politicians would finally get the message and do something meaningful, rather then arm teachers as a solution.

For anybody who doubts the NRA are terrorists,,, how is the picture below any different from what we're seeing in the USA?

They cry that limiting gun sales to kids are against their rights, as is the sale of assault rifles and machine guns. We call country's that arm their kids terrorists and yet these guys want to do the same in the US. Double standards??

At least our own Nancy Pelosi is no longer premier.

I don't know where they dig these losers up. Wouldn't it be refreshing to actually see somebody new in office that actually does something worthwhile, other then pad their own pockets and those of their friends?

They also might try looking at their own behavior.  How many students get away with behavior that get unpopular kids expelled, such as assaulting employees, teachers, fellow students and laughing at the expense of expelled students?  And they conveniently wonder why they're getting shot at.
