I like the Vegas story and all; it reminds me of the year the Little League in my hometown had to create an extra team because there were so many kids who didn't get "Drafted" onto the 6 preexisting. We wound up winning the championship.

But I really want to see Ovechkin take the Caps to the Cup.

I'm disgusted with the whole idea that no Canadian team has been able to win the Cup since WE did in 1993.

There's a whole lot of talk that the Bettman league is rigged against Canadian teams.

Personally I wouldn't doubt it and I have boycotted watching the finals since the Jets got knocked out for this reason.

I put the sax down on my walk back to the car after the blues jam just in time to meet 3 guys from Montreal...Stay at home..What makes you think I'm worth it?  LOL

The story lines for this Stanley Cup final are going to be awesome, and there will be a lot of them to tell. Both teams have proven everybody wrong this season, and have a lot to play for. This one is going seven games and could go either way. I'd like to see Ovechkin get his Cup, but at the same time, I'd like to see this Cinderella story end in victory for Vegas. Either way, this is going to be a fun matchup.

That's how I feel exactly.  Vegas is a great story and I'm happy to see the underdogs show up all the teams that let them go, but I'm really pulling for Ovechkin to go all the way.  He's such a fun player to watch, but it just seems like his NHL career has been one disappointment after another.  I'd love to see him take it this year.  (And Eller too!)

Totally.  Im rooting for OV and Eller ;)

Wouldnt it be funny to see MB's face after Eller and DSP hoist the cup.  Considering he made that whole speech about how some players get you to the playoffs and others get you through them.  Contrary to the league norm, both DSP and LE score at a higher rate in the post-season than the regular season throughout their careers and both are having big impacts this year in particular.

The first game is on Mon. that's 4 whole days. Too long. :wut2:

It's nice to give both clubs a rest. I know the play-offs are a "battle of attrition" but I also want the two teams that have made it to the Finals to be feeling good and energized heading into the last round. Vegas has earned some extra rest. We'll see how they respond on Monday. GO PLAY-OFFS!

funny how the two guys I was most disappointed we let go have now made back to back finals

because of either of them single handedly, no, but because they were both excellent components on a great team.

anyway go caps

That actually seems far fetched when you look at the draft for the last ten years. How many times did the Oilers keep getting the #1 pick, we even moved up this year not down. Toronto got the Mathews pick. If the NHL was going to make sure Canadian teams don't win they wouldn't keep giving them the best draft picks. It could be though they're paying Montreal & Edmonton to keep their management team to keep them down! :4322:

Actually I'm also referring to the slanted, one-sided officiating.

If you polled every fan probably 90% would think the officiating is against their team or favored a certain direction. I honestly don't think there is a league biased in officiating remembering that for years most of the referees were originally from Canada. I do believe there is a bias as to disciplinary action against players. I mean this in the fact that if a perceived 'star" player does the same act or infraction a second tier or grinder player does the punishment is much lighter to the star players. I was actually hoping either Toronto or Winnipeg would go farther. I wanted to see a Canadian team in the finals and have a shot. (and I'm American!) but I grew up in the US Sault and played with a lot of great guys from Sault Ont. , I grew up as a kid watching "Hockey Night in Canada' on Saturday nights with my Dad ,one of 3 channels we received! That's how I became a HABS fan.

I really don't think the refs stole it from either though. The parody makes it tougher now , this year will be a first time winner which is nice I guess?

This one is tough. I like Elller and I think Ovie is due and I have to admit he is playing is ...off! I wasn't on board originally but I kind of like the Vegas story as strange as it seems.

I do like the game Vegas is playing the speed and not quitting. I'm kind of cheering on Vegas but I just have to think it''' be Washington in 7. If Vegas wins for some  reason I know it doesn't make sense but then it's Vegas in 6 ! I'll stick with Washington 7 Ovie MVP (If Vegas Fluerry MVP)

I'm cheering on Vegas because it would be the perfect fairytale ending. But it will also make a mockery of all the other franchise owners and management. Beaten to the Cup by an expansion team into its first playoffs. :4322:

Besides, Bettman (The House) always wins. What better marketing to attract new expansion bids than teasing the real possibility of winning a Cup at first try? :4224:

Just a tad OT, but before the game on Mon. (7:30 est), CBC is showing the last Habs run for the cup in '93. Not sure how much they will show tho.

SN now says that the broadcast for the Habs cup run will be at 7 PM, est. on Mon.

I don't think there is bias either, however, the NHL seems to have a penchant for having a 'penalty of the week'. Some penalties are ignored this week in order to focus on penalties that weren't called last week. They need to just call the rule book and let the players sort it out. When teams find themselves killing 10 - 12(or more) penalties a game and losing after giving up so many power plays they'll get the point.

Well and thats just it.  Win or lose they already made as much money as any team could hope to in a season: Playoffs are pure profit, the deeper you go, the more money you make, champion or runner-up.
