jennifer_rocket
Montreal has traded defender Simon Bourque to Winnipeg for Steve Mason, Joel Armia, a 4th round pick (2020), and a 7th round pick (2019).

It speaks to our motivations. Rebuilding. We help out Winnipeg by taking on Mason and we also get a young player and a couple of picks.
jwlk
would rather spend the money elsewhere, if we are rebuilding i don't want MB anywhere near this team

We can certainly wish the money was being spent on players better than Steve Mason, but do any good players want to sign here right now?

jennifer_rocket
Chris Johnston (I believe he works for Sportsnet) is reporting we are already shopping Mason. Perhaps we would retain some salary.

There's certainly not a whole lot to be excited about. I think I'm just happy because it signals intent. An intent to rebuild... To some degree. But... I guess I'll wait and see how free agency unfolds before I get too excited about Bergevin's moves.
xxdocxx
I'm ok with this big winger 6'03" now shop mason and if no takers buy him out he'll only cost $1,366,667 for next two years
ChiLla
Armia > Carr The picks are a bonus, we (hopefully) won’t use that Cap space anyway. If we manage to flip Mason for another pick/prospect, even better. I like this.

habsisme
I like this trade and it sgnals rebuild but just not strong enough. I still want Price, Pacioretty and Weber traded... there are some others too, but these 3 are a must. The fanbase clearly wants a rebuild, just do it already! I swear I think MB could actually be a good GM if he could just get it through his thick skull that you don't pay every hand

I swear I think MB could actually be a good GM if he could just get it through his thick skull that you don't pay every hand I lurk on the forums a lot and I really value the opinions of the members here, so thanks for that. To me, it makes perfect sense to move Price (along with the others mentioned), and I believe it actually shortens the time that the team's re-build will actually take. I would be pleasantly surprised if Bergevin was actually thinking this way. Armia, Picks and the ability to get even more from a subsequent goaltender move is a fantastic return for Simon Bourque.
