Starting to believe in this team. We have a brutal stretch coming up the rest of this month. Currently have a small playoff cushion but it's still a fragile hold.

I think a lot of people are.

I know i was one of the only people who didnt predict doom and gloom (I felt like we were a playoff team, albeit a bubble one) but even I am shocked at just how good they have looked.   Too me, 3 things have happened:  1) players have exceeded expectations (Domi, Tatar, JK, Drouin - all better than expected. Even guys like Weber and Petry are playing better than a lot of people thought they would/could).    2) The coaches finally are icing (pretty near) our best roster.  Sure DLo probably doesnt deserve to be there over Hudon but most nights our top 9 are our 9 best forwards. Most nights our 6 defensmen are our 6 best defensemen.  It seems like a no brainer but for far too long this team has made dumb personnel decisions.  3. Price is back to being Price.  That covers a lot of mistakes on any team, but especially a young one.

Honorable mention to Julien's system which seems to be getting better as the games go by.

So... with Michael McCarron out for the remainder of the season with a shoulder problem, is his career with Montreal finished? I would be surprised to see the team offer him another contract.

You have to think its close if not totally done.

It sounds like the coaches in Laval really like him but I dont know if they feel like he can make the jump to the NHL.   I could see them offering him a 2 way deal next year, but we may also try to trade him over the summer. Return (obviously) wont be great but if its part of a package deal you never know, might sweeten the pot a bit.

I can't imagine him having any value in a trade, but maybe he gets tossed in as an add-on to something. I could see him accepting a two-way deal... Just because I don't see him getting anything else.

Ok after losing to the Leafs in OT we have to be happy that this blue collar habs team is able to compete with the superstar Leafs. Just throwing an idea out there

PP1

Drouin-Kotkaniemi-Shaw

Petry-Mete

PP2

Tatar-Domi-Gallagher

Reilly-Weber

If we remove Weber from the 1st PP then it forces Drouin and KK to be more creative than trying to constantly setup Weber for the big shot. Plus each PP unit has someone who goes to the dirty area in front of the net albeit not big guys but still net presence. I put both Petry and Mete on their off sides so they can get sometimes off quicker even though they are not as hard as Weber's a well placed one-timer can still be effective.

I like this idea :6280:

Worth a try for sure as the struggles seem to continue.

The Canadiens fourth line problems are affecting them at two levels...

The line of Matthew Peca, Michael Chaput, and Nicolas Deslauriers played just about six minutes of five-on-five hockey. In that span, they were on the ice for two shot attempts at Frederik Andersen, while their opponents let 11 shots fire on Carey Price (for a team-low Corsi For% of 15%). They didn’t get a shot on goal, and they allowed seven. They didn’t get a scoring chance and allowed five. But perhaps most damning is that they allowed two goals.

...No matter what the combination, the fourth line will need to be better and the five options they currently have not showed they can get the job done. The fourth line simply shouldn’t get dominated like that when you have last change...

This is an area which MB can help the team at not so high a cost IMO. Weise could be part of that equation already. But the quality of player needs to be better than; Ott, King and Andersen this time around.

I'm curious how that relates to other 4th lines though. I  would assume a poor corsi

Should be hearing shortly about Agostino's status. I believe it's a noon deadline. I fully expect him to clear.

Picked up by New Jersey.

That's a little surprising. I guess that puts a little wrench in the plans now because apparently they need warm bodies in Laval.

Yeah i kind of expected him to clear but Im not surprised someone took a chance on him. He's a fringe 4th liner so Im guessing Jersey thinks they have space for him.

Weise was still called up so im not sure what they're going to do in Laval. Im guessing maybe MB tries to make a couple of minor league trades?  Or maybe just some try-out contracts.

A look at the forward lines and defense pairings featured at Monday's skate at the Bell Sports Complex.

Drouin - Danault - Gallagher
Tatar - Domi - Shaw
Lehkonen - Kotkaniemi - Armia
Deslauriers - Peca - Hudon
Chaput

Guessing Hudon  plays next game. I thought Byron might be close

Interesting. Who gets waived next?

I would assume Chaput. Or we are going to trade someone.  Personally Id waive DLo at this point but all indications is that he's deep in the foxhole so I cant see it happening. That said, thompson could work pretty well on the 4th line.  He's getting up there in age but I think he can handle 4th line duties ok.

I suspect we'll see  Deslauriers - Thompson - Weise:  Thats totally a CJ 4th line.

I'm thinking Hudon is still on the market. Like you,,, i think DLO is a lifer here for whatever reason.

This time two years ago this team dumped Andrighetto and traded for King, Ott, and Martinsen who were all out of the league within 6 months. Time is a flat circle.

Yeah. I think the big difference this year is that we don't have the same holes in the top 9 that we did back then. MB was focused on adding size and grit and only tinkered with the bottom 3 rather then addressing the other glaring issues. The 4th clearly showed they weren't up to NHL standards vs the Leafs. Not sure if the new 4th addresses that.
