TONITE, AT 7:30 est. THE CALGARY FLAMES  (5-3), WILL ENTER THE BELL CENTER

TO TAKE ON OUR HABS (4-1-2).

Our waterbugs (Galligher and Byron), with go up against their waterbug (Gaudreau).

Calgary:

GF ,,30 (4th),,,, 24 GA, (17th), PP 18.2% (18th), PK 79.3 (15th), Snith GAA 3.38, SV% .885, Pts. leader, Gaudreau, 12,

Montreal:

GF 23 (16th), GA, 19 (5th), PP 17.2% (21st), PK, 72.7 (22nd), Price, GAA 2.57, SV% .904, Pts. Leader, Tatar, 8.

The matchup: Both teams are holding playoff spots in their respective divisions with 10 points. The Canadiens have picked up points in five consecutive games, but they let a point get away Saturday in Ottawa, where they blew a 3-1 lead and lost 4-3 in overtime. Montreal is tied for third in the Atlantic Division with a 4-1-2 record. Calgary is tied for second in the Pacific Division with a 5-3 record after beating the New York Rangers 4-2 Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

The goalies: Carey Price, who contributed to the loss Saturday by giving up a softy to Mikkel Boedker that launched the Ottawa comeback, is expected to start in goal. He’s been good, but not great, with a 2-1-2 record, 2.57 goals-against average and .904 save percentage. Michael Smith is the No. 1 in Calgary, but don’t be surprised if the Flames go with David Rittich, who made 44 saves in New York to improve to 2-0.

Byron earning his keep: Prior to the season, Paul Byron signed a four-year extension with a $3.4-million annual cap hit, but he’s playing for a mere $1 million this season and he’s delivering full value. He had a goal and an assist in his hometown Saturday and is on his way to a third consecutive 20-goal season with four goals and three assists in seven games. Jonathan Drouin has a four-game point streak with two goals and three assists.

Mete poised for return: Canadiens head coach Claude Julien doesn’t like to announce lineup changes the day before a game because you never know who’s going to show up with the flu on game day. But Monday’s practice at the Bell Centre saw Victor Mete alternate with Karl Alzner on the top pair and Mete seems poised to return after missing two games with a hand injury. Alzner blocked three shots in 17 minutes in Ottawa, but had three giveaways.

Johnny Hockey on a roll: Johnny Gaudreau is among the top scorers in the NHL, with five goals and seven assists in eight games.

After his 44-save masterpiece in Manhattan, the Calgary Flames decided that David Rittich deserves an encore.

Usually the backup goalie, Rittich will log his second consecutive start in Tuesday’s matchup with the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre.

In seven periods of action so far this season, Rittich has posted a splendid 1.30 goals-against average and .962 save percentage.

Can we please get Hudon back in the lineup?

I'll second that.

No Doubt.  I have no problem using guys like Deslauriers or Plekanec when there are injuries but there is no argument anyone can make that will make me believe Hudon is not one of our best 12 when everyone is healthy.   I can buy that he's maybe not good enough to supplant someone out of the top 9 (although I think he's better than Armia) but top 12?  He's got to be there.  Deslauriers is a fine depth guy but nothing more than that.
