TONITE OUR HABS ARE IN BUFFALO

TO PLAY THE BUFFALO SABRES

 Nov 21 7:00 PM ET    Montreal @ New Jersey   SN1, MSG+ 2, RDS, TSN 690 Radio

The matchup: This is the third of four meetings between these Atlantic Division rivals. The Canadiens swept the season series last season, but the Sabres hold a 2-0 edge this season. Buffalo won 4-3 at home on Oct. 25 when Kyle Okposo scored a power-play goal on Antti Niemi with 1:01 to play. The Sabres were 6-5 winners in overtime at the Bell Centre on Nov. 8. Vladimir Sobotka and Jeff Skinner each scored two goals and Rasmus Ristolainen scored the winning goal on a night Carey Price would like to forget. He gave up six goals on 31 shots.

This is the first half of a back-to-back set for both teams. The Canadiens like to split the work in these situations and will start Niemi in Buffalo, while Price will get the nod against the Bruins on Saturday night at the Bell Centre. Price blanked the Bruins 3-0 in Boston on Oct. 27. The Sabres, who will be in Detroit Saturday night, will likely go with Carter Hutton. He was perfect in the third period and overtime in that Nov. 8 game after starting goaltender Linus Ullmark gave up five goals.

The Sabres had the worst record in the NHL last season, but they come into this game as the hottest team in the league, with a seven-game winning streak after beating Philadelphia 5-2 at home Wednesday. Jack Eichel, who was the consolation prize when the Oilers made Connor McDavid the first overall pick in the 2015 draft, leads the team with 25 points, including five goals, while Skinner is among the league leaders in goals (15). Former Canadien Nathan Beaulieu played Wednesday, but probably won’t dress if Marco Scandella is healthy.

Not sure if Kulak plays or not.  The lines yesterday (before he got there):

Drouin - Domi - Shaw
Tatar - Danault - Gallagher
Hudon - Kotkaniemi - Lehkonen
Agostino - Chaput - Deslauriers
Peca

Benn - Petry
Ouellet - Reilly
Schlemko - Mete
Alzner - Weber

Price
Niemi

I like Hudon moved up (even though he hasnt played great, that 3rd line is better suited to his strengths) and while i think Agostino-Chaput-Desiauriers will be like terrible offensively, there's a chance the can maintain momentum as all 3 should play better together than if Hudon or Peca was on that line.

on defense, id try to get Kulak in asap but i am not sure if they would scratch Schlemko for him.  My guess is Ouellete would be the odd man out?

It's a farce that Benn, Schlemko, and Alzner are all in over Ouellet and Reilly.

It's a farce that Peca, Chaput, Agostino, and Deslauriers are all in over Hudon. What does Deslauriers have to do to sit? He honestly might be the least skilled player in the entire NHL right now, so I just don't get what the coaches see in him.

Why Claude why? This is so disheartening. I'm glad I'll be at work for this one. .

It makes no sense.  The ONLY thing that would make sense is that they want to trade some of these guys but i dont think that having them in the lineup actually helps their value to be honest!  If DLo had been scratched all year a rival GM may say "hrm, he scored 10 goals last year, maybe he's worth taking a chance on for our 4th line" but by dressing, this year, he's looked like he should be in the AHL.

We are just fans but we can all see that guys like DLo, Schlemko, Alzner, Chaput, Agostino etc etc are not pulling their weight.  Management watches hours of tape, analyses every play. How are they not seeing what everyone else can?

Is it more "fox hole buddies" mentality??

Did I just hear Mike Johnson say Alzner and Schlemko were out there together?

Yes you did.

CJ said he would be rotating his D men a fair bit to see which pairings worked. Here's a hint, Claude: none of the pairings containing Alzner or Schlemko will work.

Back when I lived on the other side of the country and farther up the map, this is around when games would start.  I'd get home from work, the game would start. It was awesome and probably the only thing I miss from those days.

I hate this. Would rather have an 8PM start every night.

I prefer early starts. I'm the rare one that doesn't mind an afternoon game.
