Good Year

Recommended Posts

It has been a pretty good year so far considering where we were at! but what do we do to get better? our PP is going to potentially keep us out of the playoffs imagine if we could just fix that! is it coaching is it players or a combo of both? first pair LHD big problem! how do we fix it? probably going to have do a trade of some kind but who for who? and coaching....tough one i like Julien but i feel he has held us back,we have better elements than we have iced in the last few weeks and at the end of the day the power play has been horrible since he got here and he is the head coach, so when push comes to shove it is on him to either fix it himself or put the people in place to make it happen, a last place power play with all the playmakers we have is not acceptable. on the plus side we have several players having career years Price is pretty much back and most of our main players are playing at a good level with some good young talent either in the NHL now or on the way. so what to do next to really make us into a true contender?

First off of course, the year is not over yet.   Its borderline grim but a couple of wins can change a lot. We will see how the last few games play out.

As for next year, I think we have some excellent pieces.   But I honestly think we need to move one of Petry or Weber and get younger D.   Yes, they are currently our 2 best defensmen but both are getting older.  I do not see any situation where Weber gets moved (even though the return would absolutely make it worth it) but I do think deadline Petry now, after a career season would make a lot of sense.    We will soon have Romanov, Brook and Fleury as well as Mete.  Guys like Kulak & Reilly are young still too.

Up front things are only going to get better.   We already have arguably our best forward group since the 90s and next year we may add in guys like Suzuki and Poehling.    Its almost at the point where i feel like we can look at trading a guy like Drouin if it means bringing in that top LHD or a really high draft pick to draft our own.

I worry that MB may not make the moves needed, but Im willing to give him a little slack since last season's overall was substantial and very good.

As for the PP I honestly have no idea.   This group of players should not be this bad.   I love Kirk Muller but maybe its time to let someone else (Ducharme?) take over.  Its pretty crazy how bad its been.   This sort of ineptitude is usually reserved for really bad teams, not teams with twelve guys over 10 goals.

I would be seeing what I could get for weber, drouin, byron and shaw. I can almost guarantee bergevin will not be doing any of that, so really , all we can do is sit around and wait for KK to take the next step, and wait for all these kids to come up and start contributing.

We aren't going to improve the roster by making a significant trade, and what you see is what you get basically for the next few years. I see us doing very little in the immediate future

I sure hope not as a couple of deft offseason moves could take us into respectable shape.

I agree, I just dont think bergevin will do anything.  what would you do?

Well myself i would already be looking for a way to move Drouin hopefully him and perhaps another player for the first pairing LD we need. i just don't see us going anywhere till that sis sorted out, i don't think Drouin is a guy we can build with he is a good player but more of a complimentary part than a core element in my opinion anyways and our D is all playing out of place until we get a Dman for Webber to play with i like Mete but he is not the long term guy for that slot. we have to identify the real reason for our PP issues and sort it! if it is coaching deal with no matter who the issue is i don't think it is the players because we have good ones it looks to be a system issue. just those things would help a ton but i am starting to think we have a fairly modern era team with and old era coach.....

At 34 years of age I don't expect Weber to bring the returns your hoping for. On probably every other team in the league he's probably 2nd pairing at best and I don't expect a team to overpay. He's at his best before date on his way to his expiry date.

Drouin and Mete would be my offer for a legit D. I dont even care which hand. if Hamilton or Trouba for example are the best available I do it.  Id be trading weber asap.....

.....for a pick and a prospect. I think he might still be worth a 1st rounder to somebody

That first rounder would be someone picking from the 25th position.
