So he wants 5 at 9.5. Gardiner be damned,,,, I want Aho.

Let's give him 10M and everyone's happy, except for the Hurricanes. Payback for making the playoffs this year :P

Yeah. Canes will probably match in this case I suspect. They're just playing hardball. They have the room..

According to sources, Carolina got calls from 3 different teams today on Sebastian Aho, hinting at an offer sheet. The 'Canes told them they would match any offer sheet. Carolina did tell them they would entertain trade conversation. Believe that Habs is among 3 teams who called. According to Pierre LeBrun

I think the Shaw deal means we're trying to sign but don't have anyone locked up. I would sign Aho anyways. So what if they match. Their owner won't come after us in the future cause they can't afford it.

We could have Marner at 12x7. Don't know if its worth it but i don't think Toronto could match that.

I would like Lee and Gardiner just not for what they are asking for. If we got BOTH than it would be at the right price and make are team significantly better.... I'm dreaming though

The question is... what if anything does Vegas have to offer that could interest MB?

How about Theodore or tuch  or Karlsson. Theodore and Karlsson for mete, lek, Daunault maybe a prospect and a pick.

There's zero chance they trade Karlsson.

Theodore for a roster player and a pick is reasonable, anything more than that is over paying.

LVs D is so bad. Theodore is their best defenseman. I don't see them trading Theodore

No such thing as zero if the right package comes along.

Karlsson is their best C, is young ... we don't have the package to offer them to pry him away.    And there are times where there is zero chance a team will trade a player.   Karlsson is one of those times, it would take a massive overpayment including player(s) nearly as good as him to get Vegas to move him.

I could get on the Aho wagon easy enough. Drouin plus a 1st and 2nd. Is that enough?

with regards to Aho, the rumor seems to indicate that Bergevin has called them & said "look we're going to offer sheet Aho."  So Carolina has been very clear they will match anything but if they've been trying to sign him for say $7.5m a year and MB comes in & offers $10m Carolina will match - but be pissed.  So Marc Bergevin (if you believe the rumours) is saying "listen, we want Aho, we know you'll match so what if we take him off your hands in a trade instead."

The offer is apparently Drouin (as the primary)  presumably a prospect and/or pick goes the other way.  The offer sheet is used as leverage to make Carolina agree to the deal.

I love Aho, if we get him we'll have our #1 center for years to come.

3 years in the league and look at his trajectory at only 21

and what his production in the playoffs

I do believe he played on the wing early in his career but if I'm not mistaken he played C all year this year

Except we may have our #1 C for years already in JK, Suzuki or Poehling ...  and all 3 of those will be cheaper for 2-3 years than Aho.

but there is no way they are ready now

imagine, Aho, Domi, Danault. That's a winner down the middle. If we did trade Drouin to Carolina, we have enough to then sign Gardiner. Move JK to the wing.

THEN we would actually be contenders next year! If we got those two

I would think they would want a 2 year deal so they can expose him in the entry draft,,,, unless the plan is to expose Charlie.

Isn't Charlie going to be exposed anyway? We have to protect Price and you only protect one Goalie

And who do you lose 2-3 years from now when you can't afford to sign everyone?   What if JK has the same trajectory as Aho and puts up 60-70pts this year if we don't sign him? Or Suzuki does 50-60 as a rookie?

If Aho was a winger and had produced those numbers on the wing I'd have zero issue with it.   I already pointed out in another reply somewhere that Domi and Aho produced similar numbers if ice time and PP were equal.     Our need is NOT another C ... it's LD and possibly a top 6 winger.
