East_Coast_Juggalo_13
Could he potentially steal a roster spot from someone. But we won't know until September.

I guess he'll have his shot at camp to prove to the coaches that he's NHL material. He might just be the next David Sklenicka.

I did find it interesting that MTL's web site fetured an article on how dangerous both Leskinen and Ikonen are on the power play when this team is coming off one of it's worst power play years. It makes me wonder if it's an indication of how long a look those 2 will get in camp.

I was thinking the same thing the problem with the Leskinen signing though is it now really complicated the D especially if we resign Benn, Kulak and Reilly. MB is still trying to make quantity work over quality it would seem. With Mete, Weber, Kulak, Petry, Juulsen all likely to make the team next year I have to wonder if the Folin and Leskinen signings are to open up possible trades for a #1 LHD. With Weber, Petry, Juulsen, Folin, Brook, Fleury and Learnout all RHD and now Mete, Kulak, Benn, Leskinen, Reilly, Olofsson, Ouellet, Sklenicka and of course everyones favorite LHD Alzner we have an unbearable amount of #3-#7 Dmen. I don't think Reilly will be resigned and maybe if we are lucky Alzner gets bought out. I have the feeling we are going to see a trade for what MB thinks is a #1 LHD hopefully he can actually get one that truly is a #1.
26NCounting
I really hope that Otto is a replacement for Reilly, it seems he has the puck moving skills hopefully without the defensive brain farts that Reilly has. As much as I think Benn is a decent bottom pairing D man I would like to see him out of the line up, let a younger faster player have that roster spot. Marc Bergevin usually does most of his wheeling and dealing leading up to the draft. If Leskinen comes in and steals a roster spot from Kulak or Reilly, then MB can move either of them out before opening day. Having depth though is a good problem to have. It is, as long as the players with merit/a future are given a chance. Last year Julien (mostly) did that. I think Richardson & Ducharme helped in that dept. In years past we saw older players on the decline getting chances young players werent afforded because they 'had the coach's trust.' So i agree, depth is great but the caveat is that we have to try to move forward with the best possible (long term) players.

This is why I'm very interested to see what happens on draft day and during the off season in general. there are a few x-factors leading up to the draft. For example, Steve Yzerman and Ken Holland will commence their quests to restore former great franchises to glory. Both have cash issues and bad contracts. It'll be interested to see what happens simply because Marc Bergevin has a plethora of young, overachieving talent on cost effective contracts. Can an effective piece be lured from a team in the name of cap space? You also have McCrimmon and Brisebois succeeding their former bosses in Vegas and Tampa respectively. Not to mention that there are currently 27 teams in the league who's seasons didn't go as planned.

The previous 2 young guns (Kotkaniemi, Lehkonen) from SM Liiga made the Habs out of camp and it could be argued that they have been successful to a degree. 2. The left side is so wide open that Leskinen can easily step in and step up to steal a top 4 spot.

I'm curious as to whether the 1952 in your forum name is a nod to the grumpy old man you are in real life lol. All jokes and Cynicism aside, I think the person I was thinking of was Brett Kulak, who doubled his Point total and tripled his goal total from the previous year. He definitely over achieved. If you were to package him along with guys like Hudon and or Reilly who clearly need a change of scenery, then you could probably get a solid add out of a team like say Washington or Pittsburgh who are tight against the cap.
