There's no need for the doom and gloom predictions. I'm sure MB is working hard on the new T-shirt slogan as we speak.

He has to have them re-printed though... he meant to get shirts that said "you can never have too many defencemen, right?" but instead he got "you can never have too many right defencemen"... gotta send them back, he kept forgetting about the left side of our defence.

Not sure if this applies to the "State of the Habs" thread, but if you want to see Cole Caulfield playing hockey in a USA VS Canada game, TSN is broadcasting it at 4 PM est. on Sat.

Is MB hiding behind his desk or trapped in the bathroom?  Shatenkirk signs a 1yr 1.75 deal, and we couldn't pick him up on that kind of offer sheet.  He would have been a great depth add to our D as in it's current state it's suspect at best.  We have tons of cap space lets get using it.  MB would be better off being GM of Giant Tiger!!

Shattenkirk was bought out by the Rangers, so we couldn't offer-sheet him. I guess he wanted to join a contender and was willing to take a discount for a shot at the cup.

Apparently he turned down a more lucrative offer from the Ducks for 2.5 million per season for 2 yrs.

And, personally, I would not be interested considering what we already have in the pipeline at a younger age (i.e. - Juulsen)

Yeah, I agree. I don't think he'd move the needle and he certainly wouldn't replace Weber or Petry in our top 4. I'd also rather give Juulsen a shot and see what we have in the kid.

Agreed we don't need more RHD we are goid in that department for the next few years anyway. We may be able to make do on the left this year and will be better in the next 1-3 years depending on how our prospects develop. Our forward group has decent depth and could solidify more over the next 3 years as well only time will tell if this year will be a lost season however seeing as I am always an optimist I feel we should make a playoff push and may even win a round or two. By no means do I think we can contend this year with the personel we have but who thought St Louis would win it all last December?

Not to mention Brook and Fleury, two of our best D prospects who are also RHD and may be ready sooner rather than later.

True, I'd much rather give one of Juulsen, Brook, or Fleury a real shot at that roster spot.

Jalen Ramsey, who is a star player for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL, did an interview today whereby he said if he ever left Jacksonville, the two teams he would consider playing for would be the Tennessee Titans and the Las Vegas Raiders... when asked why, he responded that other than Florida, those are the two states they don't have income tax and where he could use that to make more money.

Again, I don't think this is the driving factor for every player, but this is yet another pro athlete who has come out on record saying taxes matter. Definitely affects the Habs to some degree.

Andrei Markov wants to return to the NHL, preferably with Montreal.  At 40 is he still going to have the skills to compete, he would be another righthanded defenseman, and don't we need younger talent?  Or would he be an upgrade over Shea Weber?

He shoots left. I would sign him to a 1 year 1 million dollar deal. There's no risk and we don't have an answer at LD right now. He could probably help us on the powerplay and who knows. He's certainly not better than Weber or Petry

Yup, as Habsisme said, Markov shoots left, where we are weak - so I can understand the appeal of 1 year at league min (or close) but honestly I wouldnt do it and here's why:

There's a legitimate chance that Andrei Markov would be one of our top 3 LHD for next season.  That should make signing him a no brainer, right?  Wrong.  If Andrei Markov (whom I love, by the way) is one of our top 3 LHD then we are in trouble.

We need to solve the problem at LD with someone better than anyone we already have (Mete, Kulak, Chiarot etc) not with someone who slots into the 3rd pair or worse.
