Cole Caufield led NCAA freshmen in goals and points in October, and the University of Wisconsin forward was named the national rookie of the month.

The Hockey Commissioners Association gave Caufield one of its monthly honors on Friday.

He led the country with eight goals in October and had 10 points in seven games.

Cole Caufield shoots a lot; a current volume of 4.16 pucks on net per game to be exact. His 50 total shots places him in the top five in the entire NCAA in the category and first for freshmen. The number of total shot attempts is even higher.

With a three-point weekend that saw him earn one goal and two assists, Caufield still leads Wisconsin with 15 points in 12 games, including nine goals.

Time for another Caufield update. UW lost tonight 4-1 while Cole didn't get a goal he assisted on the lone Badgers goal showing he is a duel threat to shoot or pass making him even more dangerous.

Pretty sure the other teams have focused on him by now.

Oh they are definitely focusing on limiting his shots however he has also adjusted and is looking for passing lanes as well. He now has 9 goals and 7 assists for 16 points. He has been showing lately that if the shot isn't there he has the skills and hockey sense to make the pass to keep the high danger chances going.

I have not seen Caufield play before this Junior Tournament and have to say not that impressed. I thought he was an elite skater. I have did not see that in the game against Canada. Hopefully this is just a small sample size and he has been under the weather or a possible small injury he is playing through. I was expecting a lot more.

Yeah and he played again today against Germany and didn’t get a point in a 6-3 win! He had 3 shots on net.  His line mates not doing anything either. Dman, Jordan Harris did score for US today...I believe he was a 3rd or 4th rounder a few years back.

Caufield isn't an elite skater, he has elite shooting skills like getting shots off quickly and his ability to find quite ice. He is an average skater though

So was Steve Shutt Steve larmer ,  luc robataille and even Gretzky - I’m going to believe his hockey IQ and positioning will overcome his average skating skills (I do agree with your observation and don’t interpret it as deep criticism)

I have cautious optimism that he can pull thru in tough heavy hitting games

I was responding to caperns comment where he said he thought Caufield was an elite skater and wasn't impressed with his skating so far

Positioning and shot and release is what it takes to be a goal scorer. Brett Hull was not a great skater but his release was awesome and he had elite passers in Oates and Datzusk

Again I was responding to someone who said Caufield was an elite skater and he wasn't impressed with his skating. I wasn't being critical of Caufield I was replying to an incorrect post.

I was just making completely my own comments on goal scorers . So I believe we are all on the same page. None of are going to care how they go in as long as a lot of them do!
