24 Team Playoff Format

I don't think a player would die but a coach might.

The whole concept of a "Mickey Mouse" playoff format is just plain stupid. NHL management should grow a pair and move on to planning an abbreviated 20/21 season with the hopes of returning to a full schedule by 21/22. Some teams may fold and everyone should expect a salary reduction but life is always an adventure.

The higher risk is to older coaches but not all players are low risk. A guy like Domi comes to mind with his underlying issues. Certainly there are many others.

Bowmeester would be bad after his incident in February! Just saying, better to cancel the season than risk his or others health.

Agree.  Im still doubtful this thing is actually going to come together.

The other thing is: how does it affect next year? Will there even be a next year?

Pierre LeBrun: We reported over the weekend that the league had focused its list down from 10 to six. And now we know officially the four that are out...Minnesota and Columbus were contacted on Monday and now on Tuesday, Pittsburgh and Dallas have been told they are out, leaving the six of Vegas, Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Chicago and L.A.

I predict...  Toronto and Las Vegas!

But also, I wouldn't be surprised to see many players not vote in favor of a return. TSN had an article posted where Price mentions, right now, he wouldn't be able to vote yay or nay. He needs more information. Kind of sounds like they've been spending all this time finding cities but haven't taken care of some other important issues. Apparently the league isn't asking the players to quarantine upon returning to training either. Which seems weird.

With the media continually reporting on which cities are in/out of the running like it's a big exciting prize, it's got me curious - do people in these cities even have any reason to care about this?  I'm assuming that they're not opening up the games to fans.  So why would people in Toronto care if the games are in Toronto?  Why even would the city of Toronto care if the games are in Toronto?  I mean it'll drum up extra business for maybe 3 hotels and a catering company, but beyond that I don't see the impact (beyond opening up the city to a bunch of people coming in from out-of-town during the pandemic).

In short - why would anybody even want to be chosen for this?

I'm not sure of Toronto , but Vegas is driven by tourism and the Casinos shut down the town went dark. I know people who live there and Vegas wants any business they can get at this time.

100,000 new cases in the USA in the last 72 hours (and likely MANY more - those are just the ones who got tested)  I just dont see this thing taking off.   I could totally see players, coaches and others involved not wanting to return without a lot of assurances.

Money.  Its only a very small group but those that run the arenas, restaurants, hotels, etc would make some good money for a few months.  The average citizen in the city though? no real benefit.

To add to this, the league sees the potential of opening up arenas to 5-10000 fans per game for maybe the final 2 rounds. Also the City of Toronto along with cities in the U.s are already loosening up more and more restrictions. perhaps by July 30th (The proposed Phase 4 start date) all restrictions could potentially be lifted.
