Given that we'll only be playing the Canadian teams during the regular season, do you guys suspect we'll see the strong coaches help their teams rise to the top? I'm not sure how much generating a specific game plan against a specific team plays a role in Julien's tactics, but... I wonder if we'll see some coaches just "figure out" some of the other Canadian teams and dominate through the regular season.

He got out ouches by himself last game. It’s clear that now with more size, Mete is a better fit on the right side. Move Romonov to the second pairing on his his natural left side immediately. Bump edmundson down. He’s not too four. Overvalued. Let Kulak sit for now until injury and play Mete on the right. He does well on the right side.

Armia need to go down. Byron slide up. Shift Toffoli to his natural wing. He did good yesterday. But is not comfortable on the left imo. Not yet. This is not necessary. This off wing tinkering.

and Toffoli should be taking face offs until K can learn. He was brutal last year. And got owned in the circle first game. Meanwhile Toffoli was often taking half the draws in Vancouver last year with Petersen. If I’m not mistaken.

Anyone know why Mattias Norlinder is still unsigned? I'm not aware of any rules like the KHL where a guy can't be signed in both, just curious as he seems to be highly a valued prospect

I think it's expected he is going to play all season with Frolunda. And I guess Montreal would sign him next offseason and bring him over to North America at that time. The rationale? I assume he (and probably Montreal) just wants to stay in Europe for another season and continue to develop his game.

I think he is actually just signed for 2 seasons with Forlunda. So he wouldn't be expected to come over until 22-23. I also assume it was because of the whole covid situation and the club not wanting to waste a year of his ELC

WTH is going on with our special teams?? Is this the twilight zone? What a night our PK had last night.

:4224:right?

The really positive thing is that over the past couple of years we've been absolutely dominant (something like 36-9 or something?) against all canadian teams except edmonton. after beating them 2 times in a row, this is looking like the Canadian division may be a good fit for us this year!

Speaking of PK, what is with all the penalties being called on MTL?  The refs entirely cost them the game vs Toronto and it really looked like they were at it again last night??

But your right our special teams have been dynamite

In fairness, there were like 3 in a row that were not debatable (like delay of game etc)..  I didnt think it was a particularly poorly reffed game, I think we just had some bad / fluky bounces, thankfully they didnt cost us.  The TO game was bad.

While I do y think these are the cross checks as we know them in the past. More like pushing with the stick. The reality is the league is cutting down on thi. Montreal will half to adjust. The league and the players themselves have said they wanted this rule more enforced, as it’s in the rule book.
You can bet the Habs Dmen and coaches have been discussing breaking the habit. If they want to clear players away from blocking the view of the goalie, then they will have to start using their big bodies and battle for position the old fashioned way. With strength and body and not using the stick.

We all know why Evans is the forth line centre over Poehling now.  If we didn’t before. It’s glaringly obvious. He can contribute on the penalty kill in a big way.

I usually don't have much of a problem with the penalties we get, even though some are weak in nature. What bugs me is when we get a call against us and a couple shifts later the other team makes the same infraction and gets a pass. How many times do we see Gally get crosschecked and the zebras just look away?

He sure looks good out there.  Makes you wonder if MB would consider moving Poehling as part of a trade.  I think there's still a possibility they try to convert him to a winger - his game may be more suited to that anyway, but with Danault as our "elder statesman" at 27, we should  be set at centre for a while. I guess the question is whether we re-sign PD or we trade him before the summer.

How long until Romonov is playing beside Petry or Webber?

I said at the beginning of the year 10 games... i still think they want to give him a bit of time to 'adjust' but i think he's forcing their hand. He's clearly been our 3rd best damn to start the year.  He should be in the top 4, although allowing him to play with Kulak on the 3rd is sheltering him a teenie bit.   Would love to see Edmundon moved out of the top 4 (not that he's been terrible) but im not sure he'll look as good next to Kulak or Fleury as he has next to Petry.

This has always been the case with Gally - i think he's made too many refs look like fools that they all hate him now. lol

That’s one penalty I’ve had a hard time wrapping my head around. Most of the time that’s just part of defending in front of the net, and sometimes it’s a penalty. Like against Toronto we banged up Mathews pretty good in there, no penalty. But last night, penalty. Very inconsistent.

Very easy to draw a penalty from a cross check to the back, Oilers were just falling forward when pushed from behind knowing the refs would try to aid them back into the game.

Have you ever watched Matthews play?  He cross checks more than any player I have ever seen yet he hasn't gotten a single penalty.

Can’t say I have noticed. I’ll keep a better eye. But for sure the Habs need to tweak how they use the stick in front of the next. I hope so, and soon. Put it in one hand and shove.  Or drive at the hips.

Check it out guy's we are at the moment the highest scoring team in the NHL! how do you guy's like what you have seen so far this year.

It certainly would be awesome to finish the season with 4.25 goals per game! but its likely to come down a bit from that obviously  (fwiw we're actually behind TB and FLA who both have 5 goals per game but have only played 2 games so far).

I think that so far we're seeing what we expected: The depth of our forward lines is going to be a huge advantage this year - although if we keep getting obscene amounts of penalties it will be less so since we're going to be playing special-teams much more often.

I think Weal is gone.  We're 300K over the cap and burying or trading him fixes that.   I think the team sees Evans as the 4th line centre. Not sure about Poehling.  Otherwise I agree with those lines (we might see JK and Danault switched).

Should be interesting!

Yup. They switched. Who thought they have AL and TT play their off wings though? Just to get Armia on the third line instead of the better AL?
strange.
