kinot-2
Tournament starts Dec. 25. Hockey Canada official insists stringent protocols, testing will make tourney safe. Canada's top junior male hockey players returned to the ice Tuesday following a 14-day quarantine, although there were fewer of them. Five players were released from Canada's selection camp roster in Red Deer, Alta., because they were "unfit to continue to play based on return-to-play protocols," according to Hockey Canada senior vice-president of national teams Scott Salmond. Canada's camp halted Nov. 26 after two players and one non-core staff member tested positive for COVID-19. An eight-team minimum is required for the tournament to go ahead, Salmond said. Canada's 25-player roster will be named following intrasquad games Wednesday and Thursday. Rangers will not release Alexis Lafrenière to play for the Juniors. H_T_L
The NHL proved that the bubble can work, if that's indeed how they plan to run this tournament. Much easier to control a tournament of this size then run an NHL season IMO.

Setting up a fenced perimeter may be looked at as a challenge. I just really hope this tournament is successful, don't think my 9yo can handle more delays and cancellations

claremont
First Round of cuts today - yes there’s a lot of good players but for some of the draft pundits that wanted Hendrix Lapierre or Tyson Foerster for the habs, both were cut
claremont
Another round of cuts and the final roster released - interested to see how Guhle plays. Was surprised to see Seth Jarvis cut but that’s a talented set of forwards on the roster
electron58
Posted this under Guhle thread, but maybe better here? Montreal Canadiens first-round pick Kaiden Guhle was named to Team Canada’s 25-player roster for the 2021 World Junior Hockey Championship. campabee82
Caufield scored twice in 35 seconds to help the U.S. win 3-2. Can't believe the U.S. coach has buried him on the 4th line again this year.

I watched that game and thought he played reasonably well - he’s on the power play - I think first unit but he launched some good shots at the net. electron58
The worst has come to fruition for Team Canada. In the third period of their pre-tournament exhibition game, team captain Kirby Dach left the ice with an apparent wrist injury. This came after he attempted an awkward hit without properly extending his arms, which left him a bit tangled up. After receiving x-rays from the medical staff it was revealed that Dach sustained a fracture in his wrist. He will go back to Chicago to decide if surgery is required. Big blow for Chicago. He would have easily made the team.
electron58
Canada knocked off the rust Wednesday night, securing a 1-0 victory over Russia in the lone pre-tournament tune-up for both squads ahead of the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship. Canada’s lone goal of the contest came 3:52 into the third period, courtesy of OHL defenceman Jamie Drysdale (Erie Otters) with an assist going to Vancouver Giants defenceman Bowen Byram. The long point shot found the top corner behind Russian netminder Artur Akhtyamov and went on to stand as the game-winner.

Two of the top three teams in the tournament met on opening day of the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship and Russia skated away with a 5-3 win. While the score looked like it was a close contest, the Americans faltered throughout much of the game and at one point trailed 4-1. Spencer Knight allowed four goals on 12 shots — a few of those goals were off bad decisions by the netminder — including the fourth goal he sent up the boards right to Russia’s Ilya Safonov — that he would certainly like to have back.
