Injury to Oilers' Jujhar Khaira in Battle of Alberta highlights dangers of fighting.  According to Edmonton Oilers head coach Dave Tippett, centre Jujhar Khaira appears to be alright after getting knocked out in a fight against Calgary Flames forward Brett Ritchie on Monday.  That’s good news.

The incident, and the sight of Khaira lying on the ice in obvious distress after catching a right hand flush in the jaw, however, has sparked another debate on the place of fighting in the NHL.  Definitely going into concussion protocol.

Minnesota Wild defenseman Carson Soucy has been suspended one game for charging Arizona Coyotes‘ Connor Garland. Soucy hit Garland at the boards near the hashmarks, leaving his feet and delivering a high hit. Garland appeared to be okay after the hit, as he returned later in the game. Just no respect in the NHL.

Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion told TSN 1200 Friday that goaltender Joey Daccord will be out for a while and probably will miss the remainder of the season.  Daccord suffered a lower-body injury Wednesday night against the Vancouver Canucks.

Dorion also said that goaltender Matt Murray (upper-body) is week-to-week, while Marcus Hogberg (lower-body) could be in Belleville by the end of the month for a conditioning stint.

Meanwhile, new goalie Anton Forsberg, who was claimed off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets earlier this week, practiced with the team Friday morning.

Talk about bad luck!
