Defenseman Jack Johnson may have had his season come to a close following a sports hernia surgery Friday. TSN’s Darren Dreger tweeted the news Saturday afternoon saying the New York Rangers defenseman successfully underwent the procedure and would be in recovery until June/July. This effectively puts an end to his season, unless the Rangers make a huge playoff run. Anything can happen

The Toronto Maple Leafs have waived centre Travis Boyd. If he clears, he will be eligible to be assigned to the taxi squad or the AHL.

Boyd, 27, has appeared in 20 games for the Maple Leafs but has been a healthy scratch in each of the past two games against the Calgary Flames. He has three goals and eight points in those 20 games.

Tampa Bay Lightning veteran defenceman Ryan McDonagh left Sunday afternoon's game versus the Florida Panthers with a lower-body injury and did not return.  It's unclear when the injury occurred but McDonagh was limited to only 6:38 of ice time.

The Vancouver Canucks have claimed Travis Boyd off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs to help bolster their offensive depth. Sportsnet reporter Chris Johnston broke the news on Monday morning.

Sean Couturier was an unexpected late scratch for the Flyers-Islanders game on Saturday night, with Michael Raffl taking his place in the lineup. Couturier had appeared fine during the Flyers’ previous meeting with the New York Islanders on Thursday, and even reportedly participated in the morning skate. Now, though, he will be a game-time decision with a lower-body injury for tonight’s game.

Frederik Andersen is day to day with a lower-body injury, Toronto Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said Monday.

The goalie did not dress for a 2-0 home win against the Calgary Flames on Saturday, when Jack Campbell made 31 saves. Michael Hutchinson was the backup.

Andersen did not practice Monday and is not expected on the ice Tuesday, Keefe said.

The Minnesota Wild are suddenly must-see television after adding Kirill Kaprizov, arguably the most exciting player in franchise history. With a record of 18-10-1, it’s not just Kaprizov that should be drawing your attention. The entire Wild roster seems energized and competitive. Monday, they’ll get back another important piece, activating Marcus Johansson from injured reserve. Johansson, 30, is on the second season of a two-year, $9M contract signed with the Buffalo Sabres in 2019 but has been out for weeks with an upper-body injury. He has missed Minnesota’s last 16 games and has suited up just 11 times this season. Despite his regular season struggles the last two years, Johansson showed exactly what he was capable of with the Boston Bruins in the 2019 playoffs, routinely being one of the team’s best players and recording 11 points in 22 games.

Dougie Hamilton and the Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to table discussions of a new contract for the defenseman, who can become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

"We've both decided that it would be best for both sides to just wait until the end of the year," Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell said.

Already without star forward Elias Pettersson, the Vancouver Canucks were dealt another key blow Monday night as captain Bo Horvat was forced out of the team’s game against the Winnipeg Jets with a foot injury.

Early in the third period of the tilt, Horvat, while screening the Jets netminder, took a slapshot from teammate Alexander Edler off his foot. The centreman struggled to get back to the bench — helped along by a pair of Jets players as he passed their bench — before eventually falling while making his way down the tunnel. He didn’t return to the game. An awesome player that goes to the dirty areas. I don't like Vancouver 's chances, if Bo is out for any length of time.

San Jose Sharks forward Kurtis Gabriel and head coach Bob Boughner have been fined for an altercation that took place prior to Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings.

Gabriel has been fined $3,017.24, the maximum allowable under the CBA, while Boughner was fined $5,000.

In addition to the individual fines, the Sharks have also been assessed a conditional fine of $25,000, which will be collected in the event of similar inappropriate behaviour.

The NHL's proposed draft lottery changes received formal approval from the Board of Governors after a week-long vote, according to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun.

Starting this year, only the top two spots in the draft will be determined by the lottery, down from the previous number of three.

Starting in 2022, a team can move up a maximum of 10 spots, making only 11 of the 16 teams who miss the playoffs eligible for the first overall pick. Also beginning in 2022, a team can win the lottery no more than twice in a five-year span.

LeBrun explained on Insider Trading earlier this month the changes are meant to augment the chances of the bottom teams of getting that first overall pick.

"There are a lot of people around the league that simply felt that a team like Detroit, undergoing a real rebuild, 23 points behind the 30th-place team last year, should not have been picking fourth," LeBrun said on March 9. "So, look for that type of change and perhaps other parameters in the lottery to also change and I think it’s a long time coming for some teams who felt the pendulum had gone too far the other way."

The Anaheim Ducks‘ practice at the Xcel Energy Center has been cancelled after a player entered the NHL’s COVID-19 protocols, the team announced Tuesday.

The Ducks are slated to face the Minnesota Wild in the latter half of a back-to-back series Wednesday, which, as of now, is expected to be played as scheduled.

The NHL has postponed 38 games due to COVID-19 protocol since the season began on Jan. 13.

Id just like to note how lucky we were to dodge the "Matt Duchene" Bullet.   Apparently we were offering more than what the preds signed him for  - and hes got 5 more years after this one at $8m per

In 23 games this year he has 3 goals and 8 points.

That is looking like it could turn into an abysmal contract.  Ouch.

Minnesota Wild forward Zach Parise has been placed on the NHL’s COVID protocol list and will be out indefinitely. The team is currently third in the West Division, but this absence could be significant as the deadline approaches. The Wild announced the news late Wednesday afternoon.
