THIS IS FOR ALL YOU LATE STAYER UPPERS.

After this game we're either going to be

8 Pts. up on Calgary, and 5 Pts. closer to Edmonton,

or

6 Pts. up on Calgary, and 9 Pts. behind the Oilers.

I feel like things cant get much worse than they were last game.

My biggest concern right now is that no one on the team seems to be too worried. Its like "well, we're pretty much in the playoffs, no need to stress" like they can flip a magic switch come day 1 in the post season. I think they are banking a lot on the refs "putting away their whistles" in the playoffs and im pretty sure that assumption is going to end disastrously.  We've see Weber, Chairot and (to a lesser extent) Edmundson get absolutely burned by the opposition lately & I dont think a little more  "clutch and grab" is going to help that come playoff time.

There's still time to sort things out but its going to take some big moves by the coaches & as promising as DD was, Im not sure he's got it in him to right this sinking ship.

Thankfully, we do tend to play edmonton pretty well so lets hope we can get a win tonight.

I know everyone want to think offense first. I've notice more and more the forwards aren't helping out enough. Play deeper in the zone give the d an outlet for a pass. Two short for sure passes are more likely to get you moving up the ice than the long bomb which looks great but has much less chance of connecting and usually becomes an icing. Also when the forwards are high in the zone it's much easier for the opposing d to pinch and hem the forwards in. Early in the season the break outs were much better because of more support.

good point. Our gap has been really bad lately.  People are not moving their skates enough and overall we've gotten away from our biggest strengths from the start of the year.

Well, if they expect to magically flip a switch in the playoffs against the Leafs. Good luck to them. Toronto will bury our slow, tiresome D. You're right, a little extra clutching and grabbing isn't going to save them against the likes of Matthews and Marner.

Here are the lines and D pairings featured at Monday's morning skate:

Tatar - Danault - Anderson
Toffoli - Suzuki - Armia
Drouin - Kotkaniemi - Byron
Lehkonen - Staal - Perry
Caufield, Evans, Frolik

Chiarot - Weber
Edmundson - Petry
Romanov - Kulak
Ouellet

Price
Allen
Primeau

I mean, im not surprised... but  - Danault gets our best LW and best RW?  JK gets floundering Drouin & Byron?    Some real head-scratchers here.    I could see that maybe Byron is there as a place-holder for CC who may or may not play soon but...

Im not even going to comment on the defense. Its so different from what id do (and proven to be pretty ineffective) but honestly with our personnel I dont know what you really could do.

FWIW if i did have the choice, id try:

Tatar - Kotkaniemi - Anderson    Will they make mistakes? Sure. But thats what young players do.  I think with Tatar & Anderson  that line would be flying.
Drouin - Suzuki - Toffoli    Assuming CC doenst play. If he does, I go Torffoli - Suzuki - CC (although i think they plan to play CC with JK)
Byron - Danault - Armia   You glue this line to McDavid. Danault is doing that anyway so dont waste Tatar/Anderson's offense.
Lehkonen - Staal - Perry   Id rather have Evans here but I think that plan is shot with MB using up 3/4 callups.  Someone is going to have to get hurt before Evans gets back in the lineup.

Edmundson - Petry
Kulak - Weber
Romanov - Chiarot

Not ideal but its what we have & i think our defense would be so much better with these pairs.

I like your lines but I tend to agree with management if the idea is to play CC and KK together. I just think they will compliment each other so well like Mackinnon and Rantanen. The only other change I would make to your line up is the D. I think it would be better to put Kulak and Petry back together as they are top 10 in the league in corsi when paired together that means Romanov with Weber and Chiarot-Edmundson (that is a scary thought though lol but they might surprise).

I know the d isn't what most want but isn't this mostly the d that has beaten Edmonton 4 out of 5 and kept McDavid and Draisital off the score sheet mostly?

I'd rather see Tatar/Danault/CC

Drouin/Suzuki/Anderson

Toffoli/JK/Armia

Lek/Byron/Perry   Let CC play where Gallagher usually does. Danault isn't a bad set up guy and Tatar has good vision also Gally scores a lot with this line 5 on 5. C/C would definitely get PP time. The 4th. you could play a few shifts as is with Byron centering but Byron would get PK time along with Leks, and Perry would get PP time. So you could rotate guys in and give extra shits to JK & Suzuki during the game with Leks and Perry also. Sort of 3+ lines. Giving a little more time to JK and Suzuki with the extra guys instead of utilizing Stahl.

You could also if needed swap Armia and C/C also.

drouin has 2 goals this season, last scored almost 2 months ago, why is he not on the fourth line at best, perry has more goals than he does, my god

Why did I buy an Edith Piaf album and not open it for 2 years? Better not to ask.
