Montreal vs Toronto Series Thread - games start May 20 -

Recommended Posts

We have a start date (May 20) so lets use this thread to discuss the series!

First time we've met the leafs in the post season since 1979!!!

Oddsmakers have us at a huge disadvantage & the make-me-laff media is already discussing the second round since beating us is apparently a formality.   I think our chances are better than many think.  Obviously health and deployment is going to take its toll but lets not forget the maple leafs havent won a playoff series in 16 years.   Its a new year, a new series yes... and while we're clearly the underdogs, I think we can win.

  • maas_art changed the title to Montreal vs Toronto Series Thread - games start May 20 -

The dates (start times are tentative right now):

Thurs May 20

Sat May 22

Monday May 24

Tues May 25

---------

Interestingly games 3-4 in Montreal are B2B   We have 1 more day off than the leafs who finish their season tonight.

Outcome : leafs in 4 or 5 games

It certainly could go that way, especially if we make bad choices about player deployment, but i also think this one could go the distance if we can get a little confidence.

We have the players to beat them, we seem unwilling (or unable) to devise a plan to use that properly.

If we can go out and grab the 1st game, that might create a goalie controversy there, with Freddie coming back and Campbell playing well.

Yes, getting a split in TO would be huge.

The long wait between our last game and the start is definitely to our advantage given how much we will be hoping Price and Weber are playing like we hope. The back to back definitely hurts us

Truth.   Price & Weber from last year's Bubble?  We have a good shot at a win.  Price & Weber from this year's bad games? we're done line dinner.

I'll predict Leafs in 6. I think Habs have a decent chance of splitting he first two games in Toronto. They tend to play well when fresh and they've been a better road team and under-performed at home this year. But I think in the long run we'll have trouble keeping up with the Leafs' talent unless the Habs significantly change player deployment (using Caufield, Evans, JK over Staal, Armia, Byron, Perry; using Kulak and Romanov over Merrill; not sticking with Price too long if he plays badly, etc.). As the series goes on, I worry that we'll wear down again, especially if we lean too much on tired/injured veterans. As long as the mentality of over-playing Weber, Price, Petry, Danault line, Staal-Perry goes on, I don't like our chances. If we go with some younger, more skilled guys and roll all 4 lines, we could win the series, but I don't like the chances of the coaches getting it right.

I pick Habs in 6.  I agree with everything you've said but i think we're going to get in their heads with an early win.  I know Toronto has added some veteran help to get them over that mental game but they've choked more than the Scranton Strangler lately...

Man, Habs and Leafs actually meet in the playoffs for the first time in like forever and there won't be any fans around to experience it live... such a pity.

A 54 year old record is likely to fall on Thursday- laffs haven’t beat Montreal in a playoff game since May 2/67 - that’s embarrassing

We have so many IF’s for us to pull a massive upset as the media has us as huge underdogs - I would certainly love us to put a scare in them. Hit them, stop the 1 big line, stay out of the sin bin and play the young skaters and we have a chance

Assuming no Drouin:

Tatar-Danault-Gallagher (shut down their top line, our proven top line)
Toffoli-Suzuki-Caufield (hey we can score too)
Armia-Kotkaniemi-Anderson (physical with scoring capabilities)
Lehkonen-Evans-Byron (good line as of late)

Perry coming in as first call for an injury

Leafs in 6

I like this line up. Play Kulak with Weber, Romanov with Chiarot, and Petry/Edmundsen as pairing # 1. We win in 6, provided Carey and/or Jake are good.

omg could you imagine?  There would be no water shortage ever again with the amount of tears flowing in ontario...

even winning in 7 would CRUSH leafs fans. For me it would be HUGE to beat them, regardless of what happens after that I would be very happy with the season
