And they've likely been steeled from past disappointments. This is going to be a difficult series for Montreal. I don't think we stand much of a chance. Yes, this is the year for the Leafs to progress the furthest in the playoffs in decades. But MMW, the Leafs' playoff journey will end in the semi-finals at most. At best, they will reach the semi-finals and be eliminated.

No matter what the odds, I am not capable of picking my Habs to lose. I have had them winning the cup every year. One year I will get it right. Same way many of us feel lol. I am sorry about insulting one of your favs. Roy was one of mine and I hated what flower had to say about him. No matter, I really hope this is the year, I truly think that the team is better than it showed this year and will shock many in the playoffs. I think the team that started the year is the one that will come out Thursday.

maas_art
Weber back at practice today. No matter how he has played this year, he's still clearly one of our top 6 dmen - probably still top 3. Interestingly they kept Kulak-Chiarot together and played Weber with Merrill. Weird. Edmundson-Petry Kulak-Chiarot Merrill-Weber Romanov-Gustafsson/Ouellet I wouldnt read too much into it - Obviously Weber will play higher up the lineup and Im pretty sure Romanov is in the top 6 but we shall see. Hoping we will see: Edmundson - Petry Kulak/Romanov - Weber Kulak-Romanov - Chairot Up front Staal was off the PP drills but still on a 5-on-5 line while JK and CC both wore the grey "alternates" Jerseys. This is surprising to me since DD seems really big on JK so i wonder if he's just playing a little mind-game with the leafs (Im sure they are working out how to exploit the Staal line with speed for example) and then switch them at the last minute. I can see keeping CC out (not my choice but would understand it) but not JK.
jennifer_rocket
Looks like Romanov, Kotkaniemi, and Caulfield will all be scratches in game one. Brilliant.
maas_art
Per Eric Engels: Ducharme confirmed that Kotkaniemi and Caufield will be watching Game 1. But he also expects he'll be using them at some point, and that they'll be more prepared to play when they do finally get in. Not really happy about that. I understand keeping CC out - at least a game or 2 - maybe put him in Game 3 when you have last change, but JK? All you have to ask yourself is: has he been one of our best 4 centres and i think the answer absolutely yes. So why sit him? All i can figure is that they want Danault and Evans as the shutdown centres, suzuki as offensive and then they hope Staal will elevate his game for the post season. Hopefully, if he doesnt shock us all, Staal is going to be sat from game 2 onward.

Not sure if Romanov will be for sure but the other 2 yes. As many of us have said: the only way we beat this leafs' team is with proper deployment. This isnt instilling a lot of faith. I also would rather have JK than Stahl. Especially since we have Evans and Danult. If they thought he needed it they could reduce JK's minutes? I wonder if they're not 100% sure of Danault and are keeping Stahl in just in case. Either way both CC and JK should be playing.
jennifer_rocket
The Staal decision is so dumb. I'm sorry, but he hasn't played well outside of his first game with the club. And even that game was colored by the fact that he scored the OT winner. I hope Toronto levels us in game one to teach management and the coaching staff how silly they are. I certainly hope Staal is on a short leash - he better play physical or I’ll be absolutely furious with this decision. I’ll be irate / postal if they scratch Romanov as he has been one of our best hitters in the entire season.
ChiLla
I don't like this one bit but it is what it is. It's Ducharme's call and he's supposed to be a new-era type of coach who understands today's game, so let's see where that lineup takes us. HabsRuleForever
Stupid is as stupid does. Obviously MB’s fingerprints is all over this. I agree with JR. I hope we get beat soundly in game 1. If nothing changes then I hope we get beat doubly soundly in games 2,3&4. Unfortunately if we’re competitive, at all, look for MB to be our manager for the rest of the decade. CaptWelly
I don't like the decision myself. That said I still want my team to win. I do hope after this game that he changes the line up, but again losing is only hurting the team and our chances. We are in the playoffs and on top of that we're playing Toronto. I don't care what the reasons are a HABS fan wanting to lose to the Leafs or Bruins? GO HABS GO!!!! We win 4-2 Price plays great! Anderson. Suzuki, Gallagher, Danault score! habby67
Brilliant moves for sure. Then when it's too late he'll insert CC and Kot and Romanov. Can someone send DD and MB on a one way trip on one of those Musk rockets please?!
jennifer_rocket
Lots of place reporting Romanov as a healthy scratch as well. Good enough to play 54 regular season games, but not the first post-season match-up. Sure, throw Merrill out there... This team is the epitome of idiotic. Yeah, I sure hope we don't have a "broken clock right twice a day" moment in game one. Molson will probably have Bergevin signed to an extension before game two. Only 3 reasons imho: 1. DD knows this is the wrong move but has to "show" MB who is telling him to play this lineup (doubtful) 2 DD is trying to lull toronto into a fall sense of security and then we will make changes at the very last minute. (not happening) 3 For all his talk DD is still one of the "old school coaches" and he actually thinks Merrill/Staal/Perry gives us a better chance than Romanov/JK/CC

We are going to vilify the coach for this strategy or say he’s a genius for not playing the kids.
