Montreal vs Winnipeg Series Thread

Recommended Posts

After game 2 it was the usual after game 3 & 4 it was all doom and gloom except for a couple on the forum , I'll never give up I actually watched the 93 season with 10 OT wins so I will believe!!!! Also hmmmm I think Price might of been the right draft choice that year! It's still early but I won't give up and I'll always 100% support the team.

I can't believe it, I had leafs in 5. I was dreading this series all year. We beat the leafs!

Winnipeg is a good team. They have 2 very strong top 2 lines and they can bang too. Good goalie. I think their weakness is really their D

Habs in 6

my biggest concern is going to be our d. We just played the heck out of them over the last few games. The big 4 will be tired. I understand not wanting to put Romanov into elimination games but im hoping he gets time in game 1. Fresh legs.

I wonder if they will split up Evans and Danault. They were fantastic together but with 2 lines it might not be a bad idea to get Evans on a separate line - hopefully with Lehks and Byron if they are all ok to go.

yeah I agree, we need some fresh legs and Romanov needs to play early in the series

Good point on splitting Evans and Danault, we have to fear 2 lines in this series, might mean also bring back lehkonen if he's healthy

the back to back will hurt us more than them. We need to win game 1, they'll be a bit rusty

Yeah, getting a win in game 1 would be huge. The schedule clearly favors them after having a week off, playing 4 games in 6 nights is going to be tough.

Winnipeg is a tough oponnent in general, I think they're somewhat comparable to us in how the teams are built, I'd give them the edge on offense but I like our D better.

Love my habs and certainly hope the win BUT if I was to put money on this series I would be putting it on Winnipeg in 6.  They play the same style as MTL not afraid to go to the front of the net but they are way more offensively talented.  Price will need to shoulder the load once again.  With any luck Leks will be back so we don't ever need to se Staal in the line up again

The schedule is terrible as the league doesn't give a damn about the quality of hockey or the player's health but just wants to collect the TV money as quick as possible.

We are going to be in tough against Winnipeg........poor goal scoring against excellent goal tending......what could go wrong   I think Winnipeg would have beat the Leafs in a series.

Go Habs Go!!!

While I am still skeptical of our chances to go all the way or even getting past the Jets ... the start to these playoffs is definitely giving me shades of 93.

The team effort to shut down the other side ... check

Finding a way to score those big goals ... check

Price channeling his "Patrick Roy" for "nah, you won't score another" ... check

93 wasn't as much of an uphill battle if you look at the standings ... we were close to Quebec for the first round, then we played the Sabres who finished 16 pts behind us.

I do worry this may be a little anticlimactic after the last series but i think that the driving force for this team are guys like Weber, Price, Petry, Perry, Staal etc.

Guys who are getting close (very close in some cases) to retiring and want a shot at the cup, or another shot.   Staal for example won the cup his second year in the league and hasnt really had a sniff at it since (he's played only like 40 games in the playoffs in the last 15+ years).   Perry also won it in his second season & while he has been close since (last year he played 27 games for the SCF loss) he also hasnt won in 13+ years.  Its not inconceivable that if we were to win the cup, both would retire.  Thats motivation for sure. And lets not forget Price and Weber. Two of the premiere players at their position for many years - sure both are past their prime years but they have both elevated their games since the regular season. In Price's case Im not sure if he's ever looked better.

Throw in some strong play from our kids like Suzuki, JK and CC and our prime players like Anderson, Toffoli and Gallagher... and you never know. I think we can beat Winnipeg.  After that though... Col/Vegas are arguably the 2 best teams so either will be incredibly difficult... but lets see how we do against the jets first.

I REALLY hope Ducharme considers some load-management for the first game. Get Romanov, Tatar and maybe even Frolik in for anyone that is especially banged up.  Id even consider playing Allen for game 1 although I assume Carey wants to play every single minute.
