electron58
Jose Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has reassigned center William Eklund to Djurgardens IF in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). "This was one of the toughest decisions we have had to make," said Wilson. "William's tremendous skill and vision have been evident since his participation in our rookie tournament in September. In his nine NHL games as a teenager, he has shown that he is going to be a special player in this league but ultimately, we feel it is in the best interest of his long-term development to return to Sweden and continue to work on becoming the dominant player we know he can be." Eklund appeared in nine games with San Jose, collecting four assists and two penalty minutes. During the 2021 Preseason, the 19-year-old forward posted a team-leading five points (five assists) in four games, which was T-16th amongst all NHL players and T-4th amongst all NHL rookies. Anyone who's played organized sports knows that it's not uncommon for coaches and managers to be verbally abusive or worse. Unfortunately, it's built into the culture that you can motivate players by yelling at them and that you build toughness by doing so. A lot of people just buy into the mentality that it's acceptable because it's sports. Same culture behind fighting in hockey, playing hurt, and so on. It's the Don Cherry mindset. Don't know what Murray did, but wouldn't be surprised if these types of stories keep coming out. You look in our own barn at the 24 Habs documentary and you saw Therrien just lambasting players at times and talking about making Subban a better person and so on, and I absolutely wouldn't be surprise to find out Therrien was verbally abusive to players and crossed lines. Vigneault's been accused of crossing lines already. Mike Babcock apparently is showing little to no remorse over how he treated players and thinks his way made Marner a better player. The culture needs to change from the top, but you have guys like Bettman and Daly and Campbell in place who care only about money and don't give a care about player safety.
