The Vancouver Canucks have recalled defenceman Travis Hamonic from Abbotsford of the AHL.  The team announced the move on Twitter on Friday.  Hamonic was sent to the AHL because his pending COVID-19 vaccination status prevented him crossing the border into the United States, where the Canucks were playing for the previous four games, since Nov. 24. Hamonic had been ineligible to cross the border until 14 days had passed since his second COVID-19 vaccination.

The Edmonton Oilers reported on Friday morning that defenseman Darnell Nurse is injured. He is expected to miss two or more weeks, although the exact timeline isn’t known at this time. At a minimum, it looks like Nurse will miss at least four games.

The Edmonton Oilers have placed defencemen Darnell Nurse and Slater Koekkoek on injured reserve, and added netminder Mike Smith to long-term injured reserve, the team announced Friday.

Darnell Nurse took part in today's optional Oilers practice.

Coach Tippett says he won't be available Friday vs. Seattle but didn't rule out Sunday vs. LA.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitchell Marner won’t play in Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Wild.  Marner’s status for Saturday’s game was uncertain after the winger was on the rough end of an accidental collision with teammate Jake Muzzin during Friday’s practice.

Jersey tossed on the ice is sign of the times for troubled Canucks.  The trend of fans throwing away their jerseys is horrifying to every NHL team, and was evidenced Saturday, that the unrest in Canucks Nation spills beyond just GM Jim Benning and owner Francesco Aquilini. A 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh was the latest ugly performance for the slumping squad.  Tough way to show your displeasure, but, another team doing as bad as us.

NHL.com.  Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin left last night's game with San Jose with a lower body injury after making 19 saves in a 1-0 win.  Alexander Georgiev made 9 saves in relief.

Igor Shesterkin will be out one week for the New York Rangers after the goalie was placed on injured reserve Saturday.

Shesterkin sustained a lower-body injury in the third period of a 1-0 win against the San Jose Sharks on Friday. He went down on his stomach in the crease during a scramble for the puck and couldn't get up under his own power. He did not put weight on his right leg when being helped off the ice.

NHL.com.  Vancouver has fired coach Travis Green, assistant coach Nolan Baumgartner, general manager Jim Benning, and assistant general manager John Weisbrod.  Bruce Boudreau has been named coach and Stan Smyl has been named interim general manager.

I gotta say, I prefer the way we've done it.  I mean i think everyone knows DD's days are numbered but why hire an interim guy? The season is lost.  Why not just let your current coach(es) run out the year and then once you have a permanent GM, he brings in his own coaching staff?

To please the fans .

In Montreal, they still want DD canned and ROY hired as " something " lol

So C Perry accidently knees Tavares in the head and Leaf fans want him suspended ,

Spezza knees a gur in the head  ( looks deliberate , check the video ) and he's deemed a hero

It looks like Sunday night’s action in Winnipeg could result in some suspensions.

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that Neal Pionk will have a hearing for kneeing Toronto Maple Leafs defender Rasmus Sandin while Jason Spezza will have an in-person hearing for kneeing Pionk.

Pionk drilled Sandin with an open-ice knee in the third period…

One guys post on twitter

I have zero skin in this but falling in front of guy skating towards him and he gets blown up by a knee what was spezza supposed to jump over him?

Even worse was Simmonds cross checking everything in sight and only getting a fine - someone needs to lay “wiener” out!

That "one guy" is a moron. Spezza deliberately kneed the player in the head.
