The Minnesota Wild are calling up Matt Boldy and Marco Rossi — their 2019 and 2020 first-round picks — to make their NHL debuts together on Thursday against the Boston Bruins. Coach Dean Evason confirmed the call-ups in an interview on radio station KFAN Tuesday morning.

Must be nice.

Calgary's plan for a new arena have fallen through and will continue to play in the Saddledome.  The agreement for the new arena was terminated when Flames ownership nor city waived construction conditions on or before December 31.  The original agreement for a 50/50 share of the original $575 million cost for the new arena.  Additional costs drive the price tag to $634 million, costs that were only being borne by the CSEC.

Let’s face it: we were all hoping 2021 would come to a swift end, but for Chicago Blackhawks defensemen Connor Murphy and Caleb Jones, the year closed out in an awful way.

Murphy and Jones’ cars were stolen when they went out to dinner on December 29.

I thought Chicago was the " Windy City ".

The Toronto Maple Leafs have waived forward Nick Ritchie, it was announced on Thursday.  Ritchie, 26, played 30 games with the Leafs this season, registering one goal and seven assists. He signed a two-year contract with a $2.5 million AAV with the club in the offseason.

Ritchie was originally selected 10th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2014 NHL Draft. In 380 career NHL games with the Ducks, Leafs, and Boston Bruins, Ritchie has 60 goals and 85 assists.

Is he worth a shot with the Habs? Another warm body. Big body. 6'3", 236lbs. Can't hurt. Worst case scenario,  they lose him back on waivers.

Why in the world would we do the Leafs any favours? Let them sit on their mistakes, cause we certainly don't need to rock our boat.

Hard to believe a 10th OAP has no value. We passed on Duclair,  who we could have gotten for free. Is he a mistake? The cost is minimal,  and we may need bodies. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

No

There's reason players are put on waivers

We'll have an overflow of bodies once we start playing games again. All those guys on Covid protocol will be back. We're one of the teams where just about everybody has caught this thing, and it's unlikely they would get a second round of it. Unless that guy would figure into our long term plans or bump down what we have now,, what's the point?

Minnesota Wild head coach Dean Evason announced Friday that forward Kirill Kaprizov will not play in Saturday's game against the Washington Capitals after suffering an injury off a "predatory hit" against the Boston Bruins on Thursday.  In the second period against the Bruins, Kaprizov was fighting to control a loose puck near the boards. He briefly became tangled up with a Matt Grzelcyk, and didn't have full control of the puck, when Trent Frederic followed through on a hit, sending Kaprizov into the boards.  Kaprizov was slow to get up and immediately left the ice, in visible distress. The 24-year-old did not return for the third period, being ruled out with what the team called an upper-body injury.   After expressing frustration over what he called a "predatory hit" on Thursday, Evason reiterated his thoughts Friday.

"Thought it was an unnecessary hit on a vulnerable player," said Evason. "I hope the league looks after it. They have before, they've looked after plays that weren't hockey plays -- we don't believe that was a hockey play."

It's too bad. Kaprizov is one exciting player, and Frédéric is a goon. That's when a team needs a Wilson type player to clock the Frederics of this world.

The San Jose Sharks have placed forward Evander Kane on unconditional waivers with the intention to terminate his contract.

So they can terminate his contract.  Now we'll see which vultures were interested in him.

Could be a toughness the oilers could use.
