I think many are over valuing Tkachuk because he came into a team where he was thrust into the top 6 whether he was ready or not.     KK on the other hand was slotted in the bottom 6 from the start.   Hindsight is awesoe, and maybe Tkachuk performs as well or better on the Habs playing the same role ... but we did not have an organizational need at the time.  If we were picking a winger Zadina was projected as that guy, Hughes as the D and KK as the C with all three being roughly valued the same.

I actually wonder/think, if we had drafted Tkachuk instead,

1. He likely wouldn't have made the NHL right away.

2. If he did, we probably wouldn't have traded for Josh Anderson and being short at center, might have ended up hanging on to Max Domi at center. So the question is whether we'd be better off now with Tkachuk-Domi or Dvorak/Kotkaniemi-Anderson... I'd rather have the 2nd pairing.

Two hotheads on the same line, I'd expect plenty of silly, selfish penalties from that duo. They'd certainly be entertaining to watch though

For some, Kotkaniemi has gone from being an up-and-coming, clutch top-six center to a player that will never amount to much of anything. For others, ex-Canadiens employees even, like former goaltending coach Stephane Waite, Kotkaniemi needs to mature… which, with Kotkaniemi being 21 and all, is kind of like saying Carey Price needs to stop the puck (or at least needed to a better job of it prior to Waite’s dismissal). Meanwhile, even though general manager Marc Bergevin obviously kept things professional when he announced the decision not to match the offer sheet, he certainly didn’t dispel that same notion with his comments.
