When everyone is healthy, he should have gallagher and hoffman on his wings... thats pretty awesome for a '3rd' line. - I know Poehling hasnt really "seized the opportunity" yet but man it would be nice if they played him with some winger that were not AHL Or 4th liners. - Chiarot-Wideman is looking more and more like a thing. Thats awesome news if that means BC is going to be on the 3rd pair, where he should actually excel - Guhle and Fairbrother as placeholders for Edmundson & Petry respectively? kinot-2
Samuel Montembeault is expected to play the full game with prospect Cayden Primeau as the backup. The Bécancour, QC native recorded a .898 save percentage and 2.86 goals-against average in 13 games last season with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch. Thats awesome news if that means BC is going to be on the 3rd pair, where he should actually excel - Guhle and Fairbrother as placeholders for Edmundson & Petry respectively? Caufield being out has messed up the intended lines a bit, but Ducharme was clear that he wanted to roll the lines he started with in camp into the season, so I expect we'll see Toffoli-Suzuki-Caufield Drouin-Dvorak-Anderson Armia-Evans-Gallagher as the expected top 9 to start the year. That means that if Poehling were to make the team, his linemates would be drawn from whoever is left. You'd have to think Lehkonen is one of the top 12 and I probably would have guessed Perreault would be the other, but Perreault-Poehling-Lehkonen isn't a very convincing line. Poehling was a top 6 center in the AHL and as you said, he needs some support offensively or he won't produce. He had good chemistry with Ylonen, but then does Perreault sit in the pressbox behind a rookie? If it's a defensive or energy line, then maybe you're better off sending Poehling back down to the AHL (and he doesn't need waivers to go there). I don't know whether Paquette will be back to start the year or not, but the more I see how they're rolling lines, the more I wonder if Poehling isn't AHL-bound to begin the season. If they had plans for a clear 4th line, why not just play them together already, the way they've done with the other 3 lines? It tells me they're still not sure who is going to be on the 4th line come opening night. The fact they've shuffled Perreault to center also suggests they want to leave open the option of demoting Poehling and having Perreault or Paquette as their 4C. Personally, if I look at the options and I wanted to build around who would the two best wingers for Poehling be on the entire team, I'd love to have Armia and Anderson with him and create a line of bigs who can skate to create a match-up problem for the other team. Out of who's left outside the top 9, I'd opt for Ylonen and Lehkonen until Hoffman is back. But I don't think that's likely to happen, and I would not be surprised in the least to see Poehling-Ylonen be a Laval top-line thing rather than an NHL 4th-line thing to start the year. Yup. I think they see their centres (to start the year) as Suzuki - Dvorak - Evans - Perrault/Pacquette I think they hope Poehling will be a call up & may have a bottom 6 C spot before the end of the season but the fact he's waiver exempt means he probably gets sent down without too much hesitation. All of those guys are decent centres but after suzuki we're really lacking top end talent. Im still hopeful Dvorak can get back to his early scoring days (at one point he was ranked up with guys like Marner, Connor etc) but i think he sees himself as a two way centre first & puts less emphasis on the offensive side even though I think he can deliver more in that dept.
