Does this mean he has to stay with the big club ?

Adam Brooks, 25, is 5’10, 185, and plays center. He was a standout in the Western Hockey League with the Regina Pats. He was a fourth-round pick (92nd overall) by the Toronto Maple Leafs, in the 2016 NHL Draft.

He has been primarily an AHL player with the Toronto organization, with 42 goals and 50 assists in 164 career games. In 18 career NHL games, he has four goals and four assists. He's on the final season of a two-year, $1.45-million deal he signed with Toronto last off-season.

Last season, he had four goals and nine assists in 17 AHL games, plus four goals and an assist in 11 NHL games. He also played two playoff games against the Canadiens last season.

An excellent scorer in the junior ranks, he produced back-to-back seasons of 120-plus points before graduating to the professional ranks. He can score goals as well as set up linemates. Shoots the puck with relative frequency, which also helps him produce at a regular clip at lower levels. Lacks optimum size for the NHL. Is the type of player who has to work for every ounce of success he earns. Must prove he can continue to produce at the highest level, despite less ice time than what he is used to at lower levels.

Long Range Potential: Depth center with some upside.

If the Canadiens want to keep Brooks in the organization, they will need to keep him on the NHL roster for at least 30 days. If they place him on waivers before then, the Maple Leafs will have the option to reclaim him and assign him directly to the AHL, provided a team higher in the claim order didn’t get to him first.

interesting pick up.

he's not going to make or break the season obviously but does make for a bit of competition for that 4th centre spot, I think he'll get a shot, not sure if he'll stick but no one else has really laid claim to the spot behind suzuki, dvorak and evans.

make no mistake, the leafs liked him and wanted to keep him but they have pretty strong centre depth and it was a toss up on which guy after matthews, tavares and kerfoot they shoult let go. I think they felt like brooks was the least likely to get claimed.
