Who would you choose to be the next head coach?

So forget what the team may want, if you were GM and the coach did not have to have a silly need to speak a certain language who would you go with? I am not  wanting us to get yet another retread or rookie but I also don't want some old school hack either, we need someone who will be good with all the kids we are going to have who understands the modern game. Anyone come to mind?

Joel Bouchard , possibly Guy Boucher - there isn’t much out there if you pass over Patrick Roy and our previous recycles. We already went the route of a junior hockey coach with Ducharme and that didn’t work.
I would have said Claude Ruel but he has trouble seeing eye to eye with players or other coaches (Glen Sonmor) - besides he’s dead….

Yeah like I said forget that he is not french if we did not have to worry about that stupid rule Molson put in would he be the guy?

There are many people across Canada that are not from Quebec who are bilingual (comme moi, par exemple) but im not sure if Maurice does or not -  I have not heard definitively either way.

I would definitely consider him as a candidate regardless but i know that he wont get consideration from management unless he indeed is billingual. I think if he's as good at french as Gainey - heavy english accent but can understand everything & speak the language passably - then he'd be considered.  I dont think our coach has to be Quebecois.

I think the bigger question with Maurice would be "would he want the job?".  From his comments when he left the Jets it didn't sound like he was itching to get another coaching job - it was more of a "not right now, but we'll see whether or not I feel interested in it at some later time".  A pressure cooker like Montreal could go either way for someone like that - either it's an exciting challenge that gets him motivated or it's a bunch of drama that he's just not interested in dealing with.

Are there any French speaking coaches out there who can develop young talent while not being expected to make the post-season? That's who we need. Someone that has an understanding of how to create a positive development atmosphere for prospects, while the team struggles... Because we are not gonna be good next season.

Bouchard.

Its moot of course since he's in the Anaheim system now... although I still pause a little after hearing what Weise had to say about him.  I know its just one guy's opinion but Weise is generally a pretty straight shooter.

Yeah, I do remember hearing Weise say he wouldn't want him around the prospects. I can't recall any details beyond that. But it does give one pause.

Weisse also said Therrien should be the next coach on his podcast. After that i dont take anything he says seriously.

If Montreal is looking for a new coach and here are a few people they should consider

Rikard Gronborg Head coach of team Sweden

Paul MacLean Assistant For the Maple Leaf's  He was was also former head coach in Ottawa

Lane Lambert Associate Coach for the Islanders

Pascal Vincent Head coach of the jets farm team

Patrick Roy

Kori Cheverie She is a rising star and very smart. She is definitely going places, needs more seasoning but keep and eye out for her.
