kinot-2
Toffoli traded to Calgary for: - Emil Heineman - Tyler Pitlick - a 2022 first-round pick (top-10 protected) - a 2023 fifth-round pick.
habsisme
for 1st round protected (no deets yet), conditional 5th (could become a fourth), Tyler pitlick, and Heineman who is a 2nd round draft pick and a winger. I don't know if I'm missing something but this looks like a really bad trade and I'm starting to feel sick about our new management. We lost Toffoli for air as none on the pieces are likely to amount to anything. I was arguing to be willing to trade for fair value and not to have to be blown away... is this even fair value? Which piece do we look at and say okay this is something no matter what happens to the draft pick? If it was an expiring deal, I'd say they took what was out there, but they didn't have to trade Toffoli So far Gorton has hired an inexperience GM but I said okay, he's really the guy, he needed a french mouth peice and maybe someone who can negotiate. They fired DD and put in MSL, okay he's inexperienced but just the interim coach so they're trying something just, why not, if it doesn't work they'll higher they're guy in the offseason. But now you add this to it and I'm like when are you going to hit it out of the park? You're team sucks, all you have to do is build up assets, you don't have to win, there's no pressure on you and you can't even do that

habsisme
I'll post it here since I made a double that will probably be deleted: for 1st round protected (no deets yet), conditional 5th (could become a fourth), Tyler pitlick, and Heineman who is a 2nd round draft pick and a winger. ChiLla
Yeah uhm no, not happy with this deal at all. I don’t think there was a real need to trade him and the return is totally underwhelming.

Regis22
Oh well they also got a 2022 first rounder for him and 5 th rounder in 2023 Everyone should be thrilled.
RCAF48
Toffoli was an outlier in the dressing room i.e. he liked being here so down the flush he goes for very, very little if anything at all. Maybe the late first rounder will have good advanced analytics in the future..............maybe............. and that will satisfy that portion of the fan base who want us to get ready for a playoff run in 2028. maas_art
On paper it doesnt look great. Pitlick is obviously just a warm body "throw in" and the 5th is meh - both just (tiny) sweeteners, so the deal really revolves around the 2022 1st rounder and Heineman. The 1st is top 10 protected but its unlikely calgary would be that bad anyway. Heineman is interesting. I havent followed him closely but remember when he was drafted a couple of years ago right before Tuch and Mysak. He reminds me a little of Lehkonen and has been on a tear lately in the SHL (9 points in his last 10 games). Its underwhelming because there's no big names coming our way & in the short term Calgary definitely won but we might look back on this deal as a good one in a couple of years. Sucks to see Toff go though, He really seemed to like it in Montreal. Guess i dont need to finish that drawing now. lol.

Heineman is a real nice prospect plus a protected first and fifth. I like Toffoli too but if they are taking this team down to the studs no point in keeping him around. Get value now while you can. H_T_L
The first-round pick involved in the deal is top 10 protected in 2022. If the pick falls within the top 10, then Montreal will receive a 2023 first-rounder instead along with an added fourth-round pick from the Flames

Also IF heinemann wasn't signed for 2 more years in the SHL with no NHL out clause it would also be better. That being said the Flames 1st is likely to fall in the 18-26 range and there are a few RHD that are nice projected to go there Luneau, Casey, Salomonsson and Nelson all in that range but there is also Mateychuck as a LHD option in this range as well. We want CGY to fall off horribly and get a top-10 2022 pick, so we can get their first rounder in 2023, right?

I guess we're looking at an extra pick in the 15-25 range in 2022. Sort of surprised CGY even decided to top-10 protect it.

Id be fine with them falling off a cliff and ending up with a #11-15 pick in this year's draft too. It seems more likely than them being a lottery team next year... 9 minutes ago, habsisme said: you know the only thing maybe about this trade is maybe they think this run he's on is a sign of things to come yeah, I still have faith Gorton knows what he's doing.
