Fun! will be great to see some of the new guys!

I have watched a couple of the scrimmages, and the red / white game. Good to see some competition for spots in Laval - some of the new guys could foster a winning culture on the farm which is what we need. Some of the guys who IMO have had some good moments - Antoine Richard (young AHL journeyman but has some speed - unlikely he's ever an NHLer but good for Laval leaderhship), SImoneau - another Gallagher/RHP type clone, Schueneman looks more comfortable with the puck. Surprise standout so far - Owen Beck who is destined for junior but he has some hockey smarts a la Suzuki. Xhekaj - he's not looking like a meathead yet. Heineman has had some good parts.

New guys that need to step up from what I have seen  - Norlinder and Ylonen so let's hope they can progress in the exhibition schedule. I am going live to see the game on Wednesday.

Preseason, so you know, we shouldn't read too much into it but a few interesting notes:

-Slaf is playing with Dach rather than Beck (who he's been playing with) or Mesar (who he's been joined at the hip with), wonder if they are considering Dach as his most likely centre to start the year (although i do think he might start in Laval).

- Mesar again playing centre. This is quite an interesting development. At the draft one of the analysts said that Mesar had played centre a bit. Have to wonder if they will ask his junior team to develop him as a centre. Always easier to switch him back to RW when he comes to the NHL vs. trying to teach him how to play there later. Remember, it wasnt a lock Suzuki would play centre. He played some wing in junior and we actually started him at RW for a month+ when he made the roster.

- I dont mind Harris at RD because a) he's a lock to make the NHL lineup and b ) he's shown he can play that role but Norlinder, i was hoping, wouldnt be put into tougher situations than he's already in. Maybe they've decided he'll at best be a 3rd pairing guy but consider his bad luck last year, playing him out of position seems like an uphill climb.

Very valid points - On Norlinder, I kind of believe the only way he makes the NHL roster if he adds some versatility aspect - that is being able to play the right side. This may be a teaching test to determine what he needs to add to his game in Laval.  IMO Matheson, Eddy, Harris, Guhle are ahead of him on the left side (even though Harris seems to have the flex on the RHD side. So It could be an evaluation review of where he is at vs. Schuenman who has a bit of LD/RD options, so it could be a Shoe vs Matthias battle.

Mesar at centre - he is small at that position but good to see how he progresses in that role.

Good point. And i think that Norlinder (like Harris) has the skating to recover. A lot of defensmen can play their off side lower down the lineup, especially if they are good skaters.

True and even if Dach turns into a solid #2 I still think there's a good chance we draft a centre in the first round next year. That will give us Next year's centre, Suzuki, Dach, Dvorak (likely moved at some point but still young)  Evans (same age as dvorak but likely will stay in our bottom 6). Beck, Monahan (most likely gone but you never know... he's still young, if he bounces back...) Hillis, Kidney, Mysak, Scnarr

Thats a lot of centre depth. Even if a few are traded its probably not necessary to have Mesar there, but adding that element to his game as some flexibility wouldnt hurt ;)
