Lines at practice

LW C RW
22 - Cole Caufield 14 - Nick Suzuki 77 - Kirby Dach
17 - Josh Anderson 28 - Christian Dvorak 11 - Brendan Gallagher
27 - Jonathan Drouin 91 - Sean Monahan 40 - Joel Armia
32 - Rem Pitlick 71 - Jake Evans 20 - Juraj Slafkovsky
63 - Evgenii Dadonov 68 - Mike Hoffman 55 - Michael Pezzetta
LD RD G
21 - Kaiden Guhle 58 - David Savard 35 - Sam Montembeault
44 - Joel Edmundson 72 - Arber Xhekaj 34 - Jake Allen
54 - Jordan Harris 26 - Johnathan Kovacevic
  6 - Chris Wideman

Things to note

1. Dadonov, Hoffman, Pezzetta and Wideman scratched, so skill trumps experience.

2. MSL likes certain D pairings as we fans do as well (Guhle-Savard and Harris-Kovacevic)

Looks like Wideman is out and Ed back in if that lineup is accurate.

Its really refreshing seeing the new management making the right choices for a change.   The 4 kids are not world beaters (yet anyway!) but they are the best 4 dmen we've had this year & Wideman out was absolutely the right move.

I don't know about that :P

Some people want Savard and Guhle split

Ideally, yes but our options at RD arent great. I wouldnt split up Harris-Kovy so unless someone like Edmundon or Matheson can play the right side, effectively, on the top pair, id be inclined to leave them together until we get a better option.

Splits as in Savard gone ... but lets not be bogged down in petty semantics

I'm happy with the move. I had no expectation the Habs would ever bench Savard, but it's nice to see they didn't touch the rookies just because they're rookies. The upsides to this are that

1. The rookies continue to get experience in a likely lost season

2. We reward how you play not how long you've played

3. We maybe now get to see Harris or Xhekaj on the PP or more of Guhle on the PP

The downsides are that

1. Xhekaj is now playing on the wrong side of the ice, so we'll see how he adjusts to new partner and new side at the same time

2. They're starting Ed on the bottom pairing, so it doesn't help our top 4

As far as Savard-Guhle goes, I think Guhle is as good a partner for Savard as we have. I think Harris could probably hold his own there too. But ultimately, I don't think this is an issue where we've paired two guys with poor mobility or puck-moving skill together, the way we insisted on pairing Chiarot-Weber or Chiarot-Savard at times last year. I think the problem is that we're playing Savard over his head in terms of ice time and match-ups. So while I didn't think he would be scratched, it would have been even better to see Savard moved to the 3rd pairing.
