Other than few errors of dead cap/penalty , the Devils provide a good example of the direction or model that we should expect our Habs to follow. They have a good forward nucleus, have kept their draft picks (Hughes, Mercer, Holtz, a big surprise in Jesper Bratt in the late rounds), and formed a pretty good core.
like any team they have a couple of mistakes - maybe signing Dougie Hamilton too long on term but hey he’s a veteran presence now. They have Simon Nemec in the AHL for patience (progressing - he isn’t lighting it up but only 18), and another 1st rounder F Chase Stillman in junior.
it’s paying dividends this year so far in 1st place for the Devils  - if we are close to this model at the end of the 2023-24 season, then we should be competitive for the 2024-25 season

Agree. I see a lot of the things they are doing / have done right, in the model HuGo is employing.  A lot of it is luck too - we took some calculated risks (like Hutson) but so far many (most?) of them seem to be paying off.

Still very early on, a lot of the young players we current like other than Slav and Dach are from Bergerons drafts and trades. I like others am optimistic, but it is way too early to tell at this point. I do like MSL .
