Currently undefeated and tied with Slovakia after 1 period today. Monty in net.

Don't understand how Lucic made this team. There has to be a water boy somewhere who could take that roster spot. Heard his name once in that period and it was for taking a holding penalty as he just grabs the guy because he's too slow. Clearly a pylon out there.

Canada wins in a SO. Big game by Monty. I think it's safe to say the starter job is his to lose.

Definitely great experience for Monty,  to even be considered.  The fact that he is playing & excelling, will raise his confidence level thru the roof! Could be a classic case of a late bloomer, which is to be expected with goalies.

Considering how good he looked for stretches last year - with such a crappy/injured defense in front of him - i wouldnt be surprised at all if he ended up being a quality tender if we can get a decent defense in front of him.

Interestingly, he was quite highly touted in his draft year.  He went 77th overall (which is fairly high for a goalie) and only Samsonov (22), Blackwood (42) Sandstrom (70) Vladar (75) and Hill (76) went ahead of him.  At least a couple of those look like they might be busts. Monty has played the 3rd most games from his draft year (103) behind only Blackwood (152) and Samsonov (131)

Was Slav invited to play? It probably would of been good for him.

Don't think he's fully recovered from his season ending injury.

My understanding is that he was invited but he declined.  This is Eric Engels relaying what Slaf told him:

"Feels he wouldn’t be physically prepared, based on injury rehab, to take another player’s place on the team. Said because he hasn’t played since Jan, it wouldn’t be right, and that it would’ve been different had he been able to play a few games at the end of this season"

This certainly calls for supplemental discipline, what is he thinking? Wow.

Wow. I had to play the video to get the true picture. Unbelievable!  If he doesn't get kicked out of the tournament I'd be shocked!!!

The counterpoint would be that Monty only got those games because Price and Allen both got hurt, so he kind of lucked out that the Habs needed someone to play games. On the one hand, you have to take the opportunity when it's handed to you. On the other, if Price doesn't wreck his leg, Monty probably doesn't have more than 50 games in the NHL and maybe is out of the league for good and playing in Europe by now.

For sure.  Opportunity is everything in this league. How many top 6 scorers have been drafted onto a deep team and turned into bottom six guys because they just never got the chance at offensive roles and were good defensively? Im glad Monty got an opportunity because he seems like a genuinely nice person.
