Of all the great canadiens who have yet to have their numbers retired, who do you think is most deserving of the honour?

There are many choices, my suggestions would be : Yvan Cournoyer, Ken Dryden, Dickie Moore, Larry Robinson and Bernie "Boom Boom". If I had to narrow it down to only two I would choose Cournoyer (Dickie Moore had the same number, so I suppose they could do both at once) and Ken Dryden. What are your thoughts?

And if you're not sure, these are the players who've already had their numbers retired:

HENRI RICHARD

GUY LAFLEUR

MAURICE RICHARD

HOWIE MORENZ

JEAN BÉLIVEAU

DOUG HARVEY

JACQUES PLANTE

I've added a poll to your topic, since there seems to be many topics about which one to retire next...

Forget about Cournoyer, Dryden, Robinson, Moore, etc....the one most deserving and underrated is........No. 5 Guy Lapointe!

Solid defender who had a stellar career with the Habs....how many rookie defensemen out there that played like a veteran out there than Guy himself in the 1971 Montreal Chicago Stanley Cup final...he played like a veteran out there yet he was just a rookie containing players like Bobby HUll, Jim Pappin, Stan MIkita....etc... out there!

All you Pepsi Generation Habs fans may not have seemed him play but us oldtimers out there know he was an awesome defenseman out there whos was overshadowed by other Habs' defensemen such as Serge Savard, offensive-minded Larry Robinson and Chris Chelios, etc...

My vote goes for Guy!!!

I think that the #5 should be retired for Rick Green man, he was rad. Be serious though, as good as Lapointe was, Robinson was that much better. He had my vote along time ago.

I heard rumours that there were going to be a few #'s retired to celebrate the 100th anneversary of the team, so I'm sure that we will be seeing some more retied numbers sooner than later.

Hum hum why not retire number of Bob Gainey? :D

(For player, not judge for GM... Because he have won all defender's coup in his carreer...) ?

Personnally, it's better Joliat. For Roy, it's hard to say, because if he's better goalkeeper at Habs (with Vézina, and Plante but the number of Vézina is retired???), he leave Habs for "ex Nordiques" = Avs, and haven't respect their conditions in new contrat... (Sorry, I don't strong in english, I learn, I learn... lol)

it's gotta be #19.......Larry was one of the greatest defencemen to ever play in the league period!..never mind just with the Habs......am also hoping that one day he will return to the Habs as a member of the coaching staff...head coach one day maybe....we can only hope............Go Habs Go

The saddest day was when #33 decided he didn't want to play for "dat team again"!! He was embarrassed by the Wings but isn't it his job to stop pucks. Why was he getting millions. Suck it up! He won two Cups for the Habs, no question. His number should be retired down the road for sure..but where was he for the Olympics? I think he couldn't handle the thought of losing and therefore tainting his awesome record in the NHL. I was staying in a hotel in Edmonton and the Avalanche were there as well ..You know I wanted to put a "burning bag" in front of his door. ..But as Jacques Plante said " A goalie has no friends"!!

Defenitely will retire Larry Robinson's #19, book it!

I would like to see Bob Gainey's # 23, Vladislav Tretiak (probably considered one of the greats to mind the cage) called Gainey "the best hockey player he has seen"

I will be hung for this but I am not so sure of Roy, if he enters the hall as a Canadien, then retire it. However, he quit the team, not exactly the way you want to leave. Sure Trembley is an idiot, but Roy is better than that, he let his emotions get the best of him. I was honestly in tears when he said that he will never play again for the organization. A sad day indeed.

Having never seen the older players play, I can't comment on them, but I do think Pat should go into the Hall with us and we should retire his number. He did storm out in a hissy fit, but we can't expect everyone to want to play here forever.

As for current ones, it's way too early to tell for most people, but I think Koivu should have his number retired as even if he doesn't have as good stats as some other deserving people, no one can question his dedication and perseverance.
