It's certainly either Roy or Brodeur for the best goalie ever (in my opinion at least). I'd still pick Roy over Brodeur though. Having said that, I know a lot of you might think I'm crazy, but I really think Huet is playing amazing and would give Roy and Brodeur a run for their money. If Huet were younger, or plays until he's very old (at the same level he's playing now) then he could start his own legacy of one of the greatest goalies of all time. Granted, his performance in the 1993 playoffs was unbelievably good, and his Conn Smythe Award was well-deserved (Roy stood out head-and-shoulders above all other Habs that year) but his sudden abandonment of the team less than two years later was utter garbage. That moment has left a permanent blemish on Roy for me, and although he deserves his HOF honour and a number retirment by the Avalanche, I don't want to see the "Roy 33" in the Bell Centre rafters ever. I may be in the minority on that, but unless Patrick makes up for it somehow (I don't know how he could), his is one of the last numbers I'd like to see there. BTW, none of the current Habs, and no-one who played with the team since Robinson left, should have their jersey retired. Koivu is a solid player but nowhere near jersey-retirement good. After Ken Dryden, the next number that should be retired is #19. Not only does Larry Robinon still hold several team records, but his pummelling of Dave Schultz led to the sweep of the Flyers and the cup in 1976. First of all Brodeur <<gross...it goes Roy>Brodeur>Hasek Brodeur plays for a team that showcased the trap...how defensive was the MTL teams that Roy played for? The Devils to this day play very boring hockey. I can barely stand to watch them play Montreal, let alone any other team. I think if you out Roy in Brodeur's place he'd outperform him. He may not put up the same numbers as many past greats, but he represents everything this franchise is about. Honour, heart, inspiration. He's a real hero to be admired! Not to mention, he'll likely be a career Hab and a long serving captain. I'd say if he wins a cup or two with us then many, many years from now we'll be witnessing a number 11 raising. It feels like everything left off badly and nothing ever happened to resolve it. I'm pretty sure when he was getting inducted into the hall of fame he said he was hoping it would happen especially for the sake of "closure" of some have mentioned above. i think it would mean A LOT to him. . . I think he should, people get pissed off all the time and do thing sthey dont mean(micheal richards a.k.a kramer) the GM pulled the trigger too soon and the coach was a #@@$#@#@%@#$%@%@%. And they unlike Roy never turned their back or had a tantrum in front of everyone or spouted off like he still does! so make him wait and if it does not happen I am also ok with that! personally I would not retire his number. He was that good, he deserves it. 33, 66 and 99 are the best numbers As for him "abandoning" the team.... well yea I guess it's true in some sense. However, none of us were there and none of us truly understand what was going on with him. It seemed like Mario Tremblay as well as others were being total ***** to him, and so in that respect how can you blame him? He eventually snaped and was like, "ALRIGHT THAT'S IT!" and just left. Well from all the recent interviews that played here in Toronto with Patrick, it was clear to me anyway, that he did regret his decision on that fateful day. Patrick even went as far to say that the next day he expected to meet with Corey and Houle in hopes of patching things up, but les glorieux never made that attempt and instead just told him he would be traded a few days later. I am a passionate guy and so is Patrick and I can relate to being disrespected in front of my peers like that, if it was me I probably would have gone to the bench and drilled Corey in the head. I will never forget that day and I will never forgive Ronald Corey and Tremblay for what they did. Not to mention Rejean Houle who already had a deal on the table according to numerous sources prior to that fateful night. Corey never wanted anyone to be bigger than him and hiring all of his Molson cronies to be his patsies and make Patrick the bad guy was just awful. Retire his number and soon, this man loved this team and his passion showed that night. I truly believe we have the curse of Patrick on our head and until we place his number in the rafters where it needs to be, will we have done Patrick justice. There is alot more to be worried about on this team then what numbers they can wear. So to answer your question no. And what is there to be scared of? Who cares what numbers they wear? I think it shows how great and storied this franchise is by how many great players where here. I think it's a pretty foolish thing to worry about.
