Which current habs player do you think will have their shirt retired.

i think it will be koivu or theodore[/quote:54d6760b84]

imo there isn't really any one on the candiens with the exception of koivu that deserve to have thier number retired.

if you look at the prestige and the greatness that all the player with thier numbers reitred carried. i mena seriously if you think of the number 1 you automaticaly think of plante even if your not a canadiens fan same can be said with all the other retired numbers. Number 9 yes other fans would think of howe but also the rocket.

what im getting at here is the canadiens don't have those type of players anymore the NHL dosen't have those types of players anymore.

the only other player that maight have his # retired is luc robitlle but again he has that greatness and prestige being the number one scorer in Kings hisroty

you can agree or disagee but thats just my 15 year old opinion

its wise and well founded none the less mate

i agree with you, currently retired numbers are going to the likes of lindros and lemieux

back then you used to have 3-4 LEGEND players in one team

now youve got 3-4 LEGEND players but in the whole league

retired numbers will look to hearta nd dedication with the team instead of talent

as for koivu's number in the rafters...theres big controversy around that

for the simple reason that hes a european...its never been done before in habs history and it would be way too much of an anglo vs franco war again....were gonna wait REALLY long before we see 11 koivu up beside the rocket. and sad to say but captain k will most likely be long dead by then.

If Koivu was on any other team for his entire career is number would be retired, no questions asked. But here? it is a tough one. Of all our current Habs to me he is the only one deserving of the honor. Now in 20 years ask me again and maybe we will have a few more. I think the fact he is european gives him a slight advantage. Since it has never been done all the better to start with him.

I could see Drydens being retired but not for a while yet. Robinson has a good chance. I agree it will be a while yet before Gaineys number is up there but he will someday. And Roy? I think when all sides involved on that "night" have passed away his number will be retired.

no doubt about it id love to see #11 up in the rafters...but people(especially in the french side of montreal) dislike him being a captain of the habs because of his euro roots...i mean what are the odds he could get his number retired here?

Its hard to retire habs numbers because there have been so many great players that if they retired them all there will be none left to use. I definatly think Dryden deserves his number retired though if anyone. He was great for the habs during their 70s dynasty and was and still is a great spokesman for the habs and the game of hockey with his book. Dryden is on of the best goalies of all time too and if it wasnt for him im not sure that we would have won alot of those stanley cups

Don't forget Moore/Cournoyer's #12.

As for the game Plante's number was retired, I don't know who Montreal played, but according to answers.com, it was retired on October 7, 1995.

Rollie Melanson was the last player to wear #1 - in the 91-92 season.

You can find it all on:

http://www.canadiens.com/eng/history/histo...storyRoster.cfm

Just key in either the player's name or number and it all comes up.

The game on Oct 7 '95 was against the Flyers. An embarassing 1-7 loss.

Most of these numbers are already semi-retired anyway. Out of the ones listed only #5 has been worn recently I believe. I picked Robinson, he should be next for sure. 17 years in Montreal, gotta put it in the Rafters.

Robinson's # should definitely be raised soon. He was the first in a long line of habs to be forced out of town by Serge Savard, and most probably would have finished his career here had he been shown the respect he was due. He was the anchor of the most dominant team of the era. Does anyone else remember in 1986 someone taking a run at Roy in the 1st round and Big Bird pummeling him. Roy had tons of room after that. Not only would he lay a physical beating on his opponents but he would usually walk out of the box and punish them with an end to end rush. The managements on the right track with Boomer et al. Now lets make the 70's right.

Hello fellow habs fans,

I was just wondering if anyone had the list of players that are going to have their numbers retired this upcoming season.

Thanks,

No one at all? I saw an article at the beginning of last season where they gave the players that were having their numbers retired for the next 3 years or so. I just cannot find that article now.

Last year, it was announced that there will be jerseys retired each year, leading up to the team's 2009 Centennial. The names of the intended honourees was not announced. Prior to a game against the Maple Leafs last October, a press conference was held to announce the jerseys that would be retired in 2005-06. I would imagine (though I'm not aware of the definite plans yet) that it would be the same for next season, with the 2006-07 honourees being announced early in the season.
