Guest NBHab
Ryder is a great scorer obviously but the only problem with him on a breakaway is the goalie has about a 90% chance that he is going to shoot. He's not a great deker.

franck5890
That's the thing. Dagenais won't go in close and try to shoot, he'll stick a bit further out, and wait for the moment. I'm sure Ryder will learn in time, but I really prefer to have three dually-versatile scorers, guys who can both shoot and take it to the net. I can't believe koivu didn't go in the Atlanta shootout. the darn goalie was hurt which means, make him move, which means, deke. No way Ryder was going to score on a shot. gracie12
Im glad to see Kovalev is a unanimous choice. Mine would be: Kovalev (obviously) Markov (I still remember reading he's deadly on breakaways - not that he gets them in games of course) Plekanec/Koivu/Ribeiro Wildcard: Kostistyn Not sure about the 3rd. I think one of those guys could be great, just havent seen any on 1 on 1 situations much. Ryder is too much of a 'power' goal guy - he thrives on rebounds (much like Iginla) and for that reason I dont think he's a great choice for the shootout. Bulis/Higgins lead our team in breakaways but also lead our team in breakaways missed. They both have great speed but their hands arent quite where their fellow players' hands are, skillwise, IMO. Perezhogin is trying to do more than his skills allow IMO. Thats not a knock on him - i think he's a great, skilled player, but he sometimes looks like he's trying to be kovalev and from what Ive seen he's still a notch-down, skillwise from #27. Really? Where did you ever read that? I had no idea.
kev1515
Well Markov played forward for pretty much his whole life so i wouldn't doubt the fact that he'd be a good shoot-out pick. That being said, I think my picks would be: 1)Perezhogin 2)Plekanec 3)Kovalev (give the kids the shot with less pressure on them.) 4)Koivu 5)Ribeiro 6)Markov And i agree with whoever said that Kostitsyn would be an awesome wild card in there, although he's not actually with the team at the moment. I had no idea.[/quote:51f7aad82d] I seriously wish I knew!! In all honesty' date=' I cant remember [i']where [/i]I read it, but I know I did read it. I think it was in an article in one of the hockey magazines from a few years back. Some of the other players (and maybe theo) were saying how amazing markov was on breakaways and I just thought "wow, I hope we see that some day" - maybe he'll get his chance in the shootout soon... As kev1515 said, Markov was drafted as a forward & played as such for most of his early years, so I have no doubt he used to have a lot of breakaways with his speed. Guest seb_habs4ever
i was just wondering, as we're talking about shootout. how many overtime periods during playoffs ????? before going in shoutouts...
Kindred
Kovalev: should be self explanatory Pleks: When ever I think of him on a break away I keep coming back to the Boston game that we lost. 3 Bruins chasiing after him and he beats Thomas. Dags (If he is playing at the time if not see below) if not Koivu then if need be Ribeiro Bulis Perezhogin

PBrisebois43
Markov also has a really good wrist shot. Another reason he might be good on the shootout. And with all that talent, he must have a few moves up his sleeve.
